,Wm. Mahoney sworn—On the fah of this
month, when I heard of the death' of these chit
ffren, I welt to the house of Mr. Cuthbert. Saw
Cauley, Clancy, and Cuthbert, in the back yard.
Asked Ceuley how the children came to be poi
soned, and he said that some stuff bad got into
the augur. Then - -he - said his enul would, be in
before this, for he would have cut bin throat
with his own rasorif thin stuff had not been
found on the shelf, or in - the crock, I forget
which. I said that surely his soul would be in
—, if he had taken hie own life, and whet wits
he thinking of doing such a thing for? lie re
plied on account of having had the misfortune
to lift the kettle of the stove, for that it was
boiling over, and he lifted it off. I.told him
that that would only glee people room to suspect
him, and that no one was secosing him. Then

wished that hie Maker would strike him deed
if be would hurt Cuthbert or any one belonging
to him.

rots, stated that &beat two weeks ago, - a woman
came into his eatablishment to purchase emote
arsenic. She had • singular expression of
countenance, and be hesitated abont giving it,
but she laughed, and said that she lived near
the Paint; and wanted It to kill rats lie then
gave it to her, anti in the mean time a man
Came into the state, who wilt away with hee.
Mr. Pago had Been both the prisoners t day,
but could not identify them as the parties.
,Considerable discussion ensued as to what
was .4o bathe verdict, and it was at last unani
mouthy, resolved that a verdict against John
.Cauley should be returned. it was then
resolved, by ten against two, that a charge of
murder shoal l . be preferred against Mrs. Dim
ity. Therefore, they returned the following
verdict:
"We flnd that the deceased, Robert, 'William,
and Mary Ann t'itttbert, came to their deaths
by means of arsenic,' administered by Jahn
Conley and Ann Canley, hie wifi."
Coroner Arthur, then.lodied a commitment
against 'the prisoners, on a charge of "wilful

a charge of keeping n tippling Imam. was dis
charged on Saturday, hnving:been released by
the county Commissioner.
