that gap is filied, there will be a continuous
railroad commtmicstion from Pittsburgh to
Cleveland, Columbus, add Cincinnati.

"Artist's Union," of Cincinnati for • circular,
giving a detailed account of their plan of o rgan

prosperio;. Ninety three paintings, by the

'Will be distributed (iambic first of Janitary 1852,
and we trust that the "Union" will hate many

Woods—hteictment Larceny. The defendants
were waled of stealing a numberof butter
kettles, baskets,.and their coutente, In the Al
legheny Market. A very large number of these
articles, which had been missing for some
time, were found in. the house occupiod by them.
The Jury returned a verdict of guilty as to
Mary Ann Woods, not guilty as to Alexander
Woods. The defendants were remanded to pri
son, there being a number of other indictments
against them.
Commonwealth vs. Robert Hill, indictment
aesattlt arid' battery. The defendant and pros
ecutor had quarreled about a dog. A verdict of
guilty was returned.
Commonwealth vs Newcomb Dodds. Indict
ment larceny, committed in stealing a number
of chisels, spikes, &0., the property of Neis &
Co. Virdiet, ••guilty."
Commonwealth n John Simpson. Informa
tion surety of the peace,. on oath of Isabella
Young, and Commonwealth n - Isabella
Information surety of the peace, on oath of John
Simpson—cross actions. From the evidence it
appeared that Simpson had used threats towards
Lira Young, and he was sentenced to pay the
costs, and enter lobo rscognizanees to keep the
peace. The; parties reside in the Third Ward.
Common Wealth ye William Price and Michael
Brown, indicted for. having, as was alleged,
stolen a ham, the property of Frederick Leid St
'Co. The stolen article was described in the in
dictment as the property of Frederick Leid
alone, and Deputy Attorney Flannegin, at once
quashed the bill. Al the prisoners had been in
jail on this trilling charge, ever time the-mid
dle of August, he deemed that they had been
sufficiently punished, to he declined to apply to
have them remanded. A verdict of not guilty
wne returned, and the prisoners were discharged
by proclamation.
The Court then adjourned, atter having giv
on notice that the ease of two persoua whose
names we did not learn, indicted far having. as
is alleged, set fire to the lumber yard of Mr.
Sills on Hancock street, would be taken up in
in the morning. John N. McClowry, Esq. , and

Szwrearcao.—Newcomb Dodds who had been
connoted or larceny, was yesterday sentenced to
2 yeara and 9 mouths imprisonment in the West
ern Penitentiary.
Hucrarams—lilamnel Hamilton was yester
day committed to prison by Mayor Guthrie, in
defanit of paying a fine of five dollars. He bad
been convicted of huckstering,

convicted of burglary and sentenced to one year
and three months imprisonment in the Western
Penitentiary, wasyesterday taken over by:jailer

AI.LIGZD LAILCENY.—Hester Dempsey was yes
terday committed to prison , by Thomas Varner,
Esq., charged on oath of S. F. Kennedy, with
larceny. She was discharged the tame day, on
entering into recognitances.
A HAZD Casc.—A little boy, named James
Cavanagh, was yesterday brought into Court, to
be tried on several indictments, for burglary and
larceny. Between two and three yenta ago,
his father, who was as honest, hardworking
man, and earned a respectable livelihood for his
family aye peddler, accidentally shot himself,
and his children soon 'afterwards, having no
mums of livelihood, were scattered. The pris
oner falling Into hod became a thief,
and when put upon his trial pleaded guilty.
The poor little ',fellow will probably be sent to
the House of Refuge.

House—The house, after the usual prelimina
ries, commenced the morning business.
lifr. Harris, of Tennessee, introduced a eerier
of joint resolutions, explanatory of the laud
bounty act of September, ISOO, to the effect
that nothing in it shall be construed to prevent
the oath or transfer of any certificate or laud
warrant prior to the location of the same.
Mr. Weddle proposed to amend them so us to
make all land wtferants assignable, which Mr.
Harris accepted. Before final action woo taken
upon this amendment, the - Rouse, pursuant to
the order adopted yesterday, proceeded to select
seats, prellmlnary to which, the member, left
their places. They then put the names of all
the members into a box, and as each was drawn,
the member made his , selection, and took his
Btat. •
The Wet:lion or Beata oienpled about an hour
and a half.
Oa motion of Mr. Richardson, the Speaker
was authorized to appoint the standing commit
tees of the House.
The recolution to firnish each member with
forty dollars worth.ofkiewepapere for the session,
was taken up and rejected.
The House reftuee to go into Committee of the
Whole on the state of the Union.
Mr. Barris' resolution, explanatory of bounty
and ararranut Iran taken up.
Smarr—Mr. Stockton appeared, and was
worn in.
Mr. Acheson introduced a bill. granting land
to.Miaeouri, to aid in the construction of a rail
road in that State.
Mr. Morton introduced a bill, granting land
to Florida, for the benefit of the Gulf Railroad
Company.
Messrs. Grier and Morton gave notice of oili
er bills, granting land to Missouri and Florida,
for railroads in those States.
Mr. Underwood gave notice of a joint resolu
tion, making land warrants assignable.
Mr. Foote's resolution for the appointment of
a committee to make arrangements for the re
cetion of Kossuth, was then taken up and debated
at large.
The resolution having been read, Mr. Foote
moved for a joint committee cf arrangement to
consist of three Senators and 6ve representa
tives.
Mr. Clemens called for the reading of the res
elution authorizing the sending of the United'
States vessel for Kossuth. It was read accord
ingly.
Mr--Dawson spoke strongly against the repo•
Intim. We had already done enough to chow
our Sympathy for Kossuth.
Mr: Hale proposed an amendment extending
the national sympathy to the victims of oppres
sion everywhere.
Mr. Foote rebuked Mr. Halo for his factional
movement, and defended hie resolution. He was
indignant at the aepiraions which had bean cast
upon Kossuth. He eulogized him as the most
illustrious man of the present generation. Con
gress had invited him here, and should they
now refuse to give a proper reception•
Mr. Hale replied, he had hoped that agitation
woe ended, hat regretted that there was a
'prospect of renewing it by Mr. Foote's compro
mine.
The debate was continued by Messrs Foote
Cass and others until adjournment.
