TER FIRE ANNIHILATOR.
• This new invention for extinguishing fire.,
has be.emtaken hold of, by a powerful company
in this -country, at the head of which it, lion.
Elisha Whittlesey, of Washington, and P. T.
Runum, of New York. , The press has largely
sung the praises of this new invention, and the
• animas .of the company has been great. We
hops none of our citizen will burn their fingers
with this speculation, until Its utility in proud
cally proves, by its having extinguished acci
dental fires, on an,ordinary male. Until it does
thin, it is unworthy of credit_ We have no doubt
will'eweinguish a bonfire, or it may be a fire

the ground several small Annihilators, and one

being itopected by the' visitors, and all being

slowly for about three, minutes, it the end of
which time, the smoke twits so dense as to oh
sedre the Comes, Which appeared as if extin
guish . Some of the, panes in the fret story
x-ixdo breaking with i the heat, a current of
fresh air displaced aid smoke, and the flames
burned with great brilliliney.
•At 10 minutes. past 12, the gigot,' was given
for applying the 'Annihilator: That on the hand
barrow was backed up' . to the shop front, and

Alto the fire. At this Spat, the chop was well a
going, and the upper part of the house filled
with a suffocating amok - kg but the flameshad not
reached the first floor. The Annihilator appeared
to produce not the slightest effect upon. the flames,
and the larger machiug, called "A District or
Street Fire Annihilator,' was ordered up, and
an attempt made to direet its jets of gas into the
fire by means of a hose, l as in ordinary fire en
gines. The femme of thel gas, however, instantly
,t'vheed the hoar, and the machine woe backed
up boldly to the trout 01l the building, on opera
tion of extreme dictieutti, on account of the heat

The wagon Annihilator, which had been held
