off a earthed of earth a day from the siihincnm
bent city. Not one half iof the entire city Is yet
excavated. The earthlymound which covers it
is an exceedingly beautiful and rich vineyard,
with houses of peasants:. scattered over its sur
face. A bastion of the seawall has recently been
unearthed, which goes to confirm the opinion
that the sea, now nearly a mile distant, once
laved the walls of Pompeii.
