Loins, Jtme 23 The total mortality fix •the week ending yes terday was 272, 149 of which were of Cholera, mostly confined to emlirranis. The Cholera was also prevailing at Jefferson Barracks, and IS deaths, thus far, have been reported, confined principally to new recruits. THE ; BUFFALO HUNT. CIECINSASI. Jane 24 The exhibition of the Indian Buffalo Hunt took place yesterday opposite this eity. It was attended by about 10,000 persona. Ile — BaHalo when attacked by the Imam, and - pierced by their arrows showed no disposition to fight and the crold, seeing they were hum bugged, became excited, and fired at the Indium they then killed the Buffalo, and were about en tering Wood's Museum with it. Several thou sand person wen by this time collected, and a riot was about commencing when the mayor with a 'trans posseof police arrived on the ground, and arrested ten of the ringleaders. 'There was great excite:bent today among the workmen the Gosport Nary Yard, in conse quence ofan order brined by Commandant String ham,-to admit no workmen to Alt - o,yard, except daring in:Watts hours. The workmen held a meeting Yesterday, and appointed a committee to shit the Commandant, and request him to rescind the order; but he refined, alleging that pilfering bad been committed toa great extent. Tbe workmen then appilinted another committee to wait on President Fillmore, at. Old Point Com fort, and request his interference in the matter. The wilful disobedience of the Secretory of War, who rejetted Dr. Carmichaers applica tion in Gen: Talton's , presence, and refused to recognize an alleged verbal contract with the pennons Secretary. 54. Conduct unbecoming an officer and a gen tleman—lmowing these articles to be unneces sary for the public ferric°, and in contracting for them abused his outhority in an unwarrant able manner—making also false statements to the Secretary of War,' with intent to deceive; and also denying that the contract had been made by him, or at his instance. Capt. hlcGruder, and Mr. Conrad,. Secretary of War were thin crammed, at length; in sup port of the charges. The Secretary's evidence was not concluded, when the Court adjourned. TEE CANAL ENLARGEMENT BILL. ALDAET, June 24 . The Senate has just passed the Erie Canal En. largementll, by a vote of—Yeas 21—Nays 8. There is great excitement here in consequence of this action. WEIG STATE CONVENTION LASeLerEI4 (Pa.,) Jane The Whig State Convention mat in the eourt House. at 10 o'clock to-day, and was called to order by Mr.'Loomis, of Allegheny county. The Hon. Samuel Bell, of Berke, was elected temporary Chairman, and Samuel W. Pearson, of Somerset, and Amos S. Herdmau, of Lan caster, as Secredtriea. The list of ,Delegates was then called, when a number of substitutes, presented themeelves. Considerable discoselon enened upon their admis aion. Finally, the question was settled by a dopting a rtsolutiottdeclating it inexpedient to admit any substitute who shall not reside In the county for which he may be proposed to act. A Committee of ten was appointed to select officers for a permanent organization of the Con vention. The Convention then ndjonrned until 2 o'clock in the afternoon. At .2 o'clock, P, M. the Contention again as sembled; when the Committee of officers made their report, as follower.— Parameter—lion. John H. Ewing, of Wash ington county. Vlce Passional's—Charles Gilpin, of Phila delphia ; General Wilson of yenango ; and 25 others. • Szcarranms-8. W. Pearson, of Somerset, and six others. These selections were unanimously agreed to. The President, on taking the Chair, addiessed the Convention at length—highly eulogistic of Gov. Johnston's Administration,. 'iieV laudatory of hit personal character. When be concluded, the Hon.. C. Darragh moved the appointment of a Committee. to draft resolutions, which was agreed to. After the Committee had retired, Hon. ,H J. Ogle moved that Wee. F. Johnston, the present Governor of the Commonwealth, be nominated by acclamation, as the Whig candidate for Governor at the next election, which was seconded by half the voices of the Convention, and carried amid every demonstration of enthusiasm. A CoMmittee was then appointed to wait upon the Governor at his hotel, and inform him of his nomination. After which the Convention took a recess until 4 o'clock, P. M. Upon the reassembling of the Convention, the Committee on resolutions reported a long series, favoring a high tariff—condemning that of 1846, and regarding with respect the adjustment measures passed by the last session of Congress.
