Geo. L. McClintock, of the fine new steamer Irene No. 2, to participate in a trip of pleasure down the Ohio river, on Satur day last. Oar gallant little steamer, at the' ap pointed liCur, and under o moderate bead of steam, left the wharf, end gently wended' her way down the willing , sires= Ou.r party on board was quite large, and all seemed joyful and happy at the prospect before us—tone more so' than our excellent Captain. It seemed to be his whole study to render every one around pleasant and happy, and to judge from the general feel ing,we should infer that be succeeded well inhis laudable efforts. About four o'clock in the afternoon, having arrived at the fall extent of our downward trip, we rounded to at Shoustown, a place (=ouster steamboat building, and from whose extensive shipyards some of the most splendid steamers here been launched that ever graced the West ern waters. The boat lay at this point long enough to enablosrus to obtain 10020 knowledge of this time honored locality, and to take a view of the mammoth steamer now on the stocks at the shipyard. This steamer is designed, when fin ished, to fill the place of the . Clipper No. 2, In our alrerily magnificent line of Cincinnati pack ets. She'will be considerably larger than any of the packets now running, and from the exquis iteness of her model, and the enormous power of the engines now building for her, it is expected that she will far exceed in speed anything that has preceded her, lint we have diverged a little from the point at which we aimed at the commencement of this article. After tarrying at this place about an hour, we were warned by the tapping of the bell that our presence on board was desired, and in a few minutes we were on our way back to the "smoky city." About 5 o'clock.in the afternoon, and while en our wai.up, we were treated by Captain 31. with a splendid supper, which was Italy and very satisfactorily discussed by all present. Every thing was abundant, and of the choicest kind, and done up in a peculiar appro priateness of style, highly creditable to 'the culi nary caterers of the Irene, and equal to any steam- afieat. About half peat 7 o'clock, r. st., we were ' all safely landed on the wharf, and repaired to oar several homes, highly delighted with our pleasure excursion, and hoping that Captain io- Clintock, in his new enterprise, may be as sue, cesaful in winning the confidence and patronage of the public, as he was in gaining the undivided good. opinions of his numerous arid . highly de lighted guests of the day. The Irene No. P. was built to take the place of the 'steamer Irene, which was sunk is the Ohio river last reason. She is designed to rim be tween Pittsburgh and Louisville, during low wa ter, and being of the very lightest draught (draw ing only about 16 inches light,) she is most ad mirably adopted for that purpose. Her dimen sions are 146 feet In length, 26 feet beam, and 41 feet hold. She carries two boilers._ Her en engines were MO by Haigh; Ilartilpea A. Co. Iler Cabin was built by W.
