JACOBS.
And is she numbered with the slicer dead!
line of the lovely face and Ronny smile!
Has her pure spirit from its prison lied!
To leave a void that few can fill the while .
Too fair to live—yet not ton young to die
While living blest full many a loving heart:
And dying, widows one that oft:Anal sigh
O'er cherished hopes that from it now depart.
Parents now mourn their much beloved child.
And manly brother. miss her kindness here
A gentle sister, tou, with accents wild,
Weeps the companion to her heart so dear.
Her girl hoori - friends, deplom the young ileemme
if one they loved in springs gay sprightly hour;
Long, on their own envolvingyeurs increase.
For Mr the pride of pleasures fairy bower.
Though God bath early called her to the Lorne,
From whelace her spirit came to bless and cheer;
Yet e'er fond recollections oft will roam.
Bright hallaw'd thoughts to memory ever dear.
Fresh vend • reon her grave shall sweetly glow.
Gemmed 'ith the tears by pure affection shed:
The wreatl l'of friendship, bud, and bloom and
grow,
Where sl iTs the dust of much lamented dead.

"IftliTHll,—Mll3. MEEK, OF A BOW'
My mime is Meek. I am, in fact, Mr. Meek.
That son is mine and .lies. Neck's. When I Mir
the announcement in the Times, I dropped the
paper. I had put it in myself, and paid for it,
—hut it looked so noble that it overpowered me.
As coca rat could compose my feelings, I took
the paper up to Mrs. Meek's lied-side. "Marin
June," said I—l allude to Mrs. Meek—"you are
now a politic character."
We read the review of our child several times,
with feelings of the strongest emotion : and I
sent the boy who cleans the boots and oboes to the
office for fifteen copies. No reduction was made
on taking that quantity.
I hope and believe I am a quiet man, I will go
further. I bane lam a quiet mar. My constitu
tion is tremulous, my voice was never loud, and
in point of stature, I have been from my infancy,
small. I have Ithe greatest respect for Maria
Jane's mamma. ! She iv a remarkable woman.—
I honor Maria Aule's mamma In my opinion,
eh, would storm a town, single handed, with a
hearth broom, and carry it. I have never known
Ler - yield to any point whatever to mortal man.
She is calculated to terrify the stoutest heart.
Still—but I will not anticipate.
The nest intimation I had of any preparation
being in progress, ou the part of Maria Jane's ma
mma, WWI one afternoon 'several months ago. I
come Immo earlier than usual from the office,
and proceeding into the dining room, found an
obstruction healed the door, which prevented it
from opening freely. It was an obstruction of a

what resemblance, in test, it bears to that natu

Augustus George, I charge Mrs. Prodgit (aided

inconsistently administering opium to allay the

this? •
If the days of Egyptian Mummies are passed,
Low dare Mrs. Prodgit require, for the use of
my son, =amount of flannel and linen that would
carpet my humble roof Do I wonder that she

a elate of nature; having nothing on, but an ex
tremely short shirt, remarkably disproportionate
to the length of Lis usual outer garments.— .
Trailing from Mrs. Prodgit's lap, on the floor,
was a long roller or bandage—l should say of
several yards in extent. In this, 1 saw Mrs.
Prodgit tightly roll the body of toy unutfending
infant, turtling him over and over, now present
ingbis unconscious face upward..inow the back
of his bald head, until the unnatural feat was
accomplished, and the bandage secured by a pin
which I have every reason to believe entered the

passed the present phase of his existence. Can
