Nearly the whole of the morning and alrernoon
sessions of the house of Representatives to day
were occupied in a final and successful effort to
force through the unfound e d claim of Ifitebio•por
n"eged losses incurred in-executing the printing
for Congress. The Committee on Printing, con
sisting of three friends of the claimant, to whom
his applicotion had been referred for examine
tion, reported that he had lost $7,000 on the
luting of one document, but as to the whole
amount no loss could be shown,, because the no
counts for the printing of Congress were kept
with those for printing the Union newspaper.—
This report wt equivalent to en abandonment
of the pretence that either Ritchie or his instru
ments had lost anything by their jobs, for it was
known to the whole House that if the sum named
