Front Ma Boston Tnisslier.fen.u,.. At ebout twelve o'clock this forenorin, an el- legeirlugitive slave, named Shadrach, was ar rested by the United States Marshal at Taft'a Cornhill Coffee Hose. The arrest was made:' without opposition. The prisoner was conveyed to the United States Cir,cnit Court Room, where a craitd of spectators speedily gathered. The warrant was issued by U... S. Commission er C. Curtis, upon complaintofJohn Hopper, attorney of John De Bree, Purser of U. S. S., residing at Norfolk. De Bree claims that Shad such belongs to him, and that he ezcaped in 1849. Seth J. Thomas ,appeared for claimant. E. S. Sewall, Ellis Gray Loring, and others for the defendant. The counsel for the defendant dekired n ponement, upon the ground that time would lee wanted to get together eridence, and prepare for. a defence. The Commissioner said lie was dis posed to grant this. In the mean time, for the information' of defonthtnt's counsel, the docu ments upon which the warrant was issued were rend by Seth J. Them.. Esq , counsel for claim , ant. They convicted of depositions taken before the United States Judge at Non folk, to the effect that Shadrach Was the true and lawful slave of John De Ilree, nod that he escaped on the Sd of May, 185 U. tither documents were pat in to show how De litre became possessed of the alleged fugitive; one deposition was to the effect that deponent had seen Shadrach in Nor folk, as the slave of Lie Bree, and 'afterwdrds ! in Boston, where Rustic-nett told him that he had escaped from De Dere; other depositions were to the effect that they had, seen Shadrach in Nor folk us the slave of Deglree. At the conclusion of the reading of the docu ments. the Commissioner postponed the further , consideration of the case to Tuesday next, at 10 A. M. . The Court Itoom was then gradually cleared of its oceupmits, the prisoner remaining in the cus tody of DeputyNanhall Riley and his assistants. The Counsel of the defendeid then had along con sultatiton with him ns to the line of defence.— Among the most prominent of them were Ilich ard 11. Donn, Jr., S. E. Sewall, Es+, and Ellis Gray Loring. Besides these there were a num ber of other lawyers, who volunteered their as sistance. " By a law of the State, the use of the Jail is forbidden for the confinement of n prisoner under the fugitive slave process, and therefore he will either he confined in the Court room iintil Tues day, or in case of any attempt at rescue, he will he taken to the Navy Yard. The prisoner is of a dark copper complexion, about 5 feet f inches high, of rather stout build. He has been employed as a waiter for shout three months at what is known 'as the Remind Coffee House, kept by I\ Or. Taft. At the time of the ex citement relative toot:raft and his wife, the pfls oner left the City and went Eastward, hut after ward returned. Ile appeared in Court . with Ins waiter's apron en, and teemed ratio and com posed. At I o'clock the stairway of the Court Boom and the avenues of the Court !louse were crowded . with blacks and whites, males and females, but no acts of violence or threats were mole. P. S. Rrecer of ter Pritoner ' Since writing the above, we learn the follow ing facts of the rescue of the ailtged fugitive: About two o'clock, after the consultglion of lawyers had ceased, and n. Mr. Davis \lle last lawyer, was leaving the court room, (which bad been locked since the adjournment of the hear. ing, with sereral offieers stationed at each door. I the doom were forcibly thrown open by a band of colored men, who with loud cries of .tear him away,..filled the room to the number of a hull ' deed or mare. The _officers at the door were- kicked, cuffed. and knocked about in every direction, and not withstanding the resistance of a posse of about twenty strong upon the inside, the prisoner was seized by the mob and carried off in triumph. One negro seired the sword of the United States Marshal and flourished it about the beads of all . who opposed him. The sword- was after wards found in the street, and taken hack. No adequate description can be given of the scene in the court room. , The attack was so sudden and unexpected that the officers Inid not time to mate a defence or gather around the prisoner. We do not hear that any weapons Were used, or that Any one was seriously injured. We believe there were no white persons raga ged in the rescue.
