George M. Lake's horse was taken
suddenly sick on Friday, when Dr.
Tower, of Montrose, was called, and the
ailment wai pronounced spinal menin
gitis. The horse died Saturday after
noon. There 9 no coal here for sale, and
most of the people are out or nearly so,
and teams will have to be sent to other
places for It. Cord wood Is also very
scarce, only an occasional load being
offered for sale.

J. J. Strickland has recently erected
a windmill on his faim, and also a fine

al Park seminary. The ladles will spend

home on Saturday.
A drama entitled tho "Jail Birds" will
be tendered on Thursday evening in
Llederkrnnz hall by home talent.
The pupils of the Honesdale graded
school will gl'e an entertainment Fri
day evening. Proceeds for the school
library.
A most enjoyable banquet was given
by the managers of Dorln & Carrolls'
Black Diamond minstrels at Nlelson's
French restaurant on Tuesday night.
Covers were laid for twenty-five. The
several courses were served In elegant
style, to which the guests did ample Jus
tice, after which N. B. Spencer In his
usual graceful manner stated tho ob
"Ject of the gathering, pnylng a high
tribute to the home minstrel talent, also
acting us toastmaster for the evening.
Space will not udmlt of detailed repoit
of the toasts and responses. Suflice It
to say that everyone present responded
to toast or sang a solo, and merrymak
ing was the order of the evening. The
duets by Doiln and Carroll, solos by
Blasdell. J. C. Itlcley, Robert Clark,
John Carroll and others. Also the cho
rus by the whole company, were decid
edly entertaining. Those present in
cluded the members of the Maple City
band and Dorln & Carroll's minstrels,
N. J. Spencer, of the Wayne Herald;
H. K. Basett, of the Independent; Will
iam McKenna, of the Scranton Truth,
and the representative of the Scranton
Tribune. A standing vote of th inks
was given the manager, who conceived
the plan for the enjoyment given. Tho
whole company joined In the song,
"Red. White nnd Blue," which closed
the programme.
