Brooklyn Eisteddfod on Thanksgiving Day
Is Attracting a Great Deal of Attention.

of conversation In musical circles. From
present Indications the mixed chorus,

petitions will have a number of entries
from this city.
Tho Scriinion Choral society, under
the leadership of .John T. Walking, arc
holding weekly rohcnrsnlH In Music hall
and the Sernnton mule party will also
compete under his direction. The
ladles party held a meeting at the
First Welsh Congregational chureh,
Monday evening:, and rehearsed under
the leadership oC Mrs. .lames Ileckel.
They decided to enter the competition
tinder the leadership of Mrs. O. H.
Thomas, who has so successfully led
them In the past.
The North Serauton Choral union
nnd Cllce club are also rehearsing,

Saloon Keeper in Trouble.
Ellon Jones, of 220 Spruce street, np
piared before Alderman Xoone. yes
terday and swore out a warrant for
the nrresL of John J. Morris, tile pro
prietor of n saloon at M:J Penn avenue,
on the charge of assault and battery.
He was placed under arrest by Con
stable Charles Jacobs and given a hear
ing last evening.
Tim prosecutrix claims that Morris,
while she was In his saloon, knocked
her down, kicked her about and severe
ly beat her. Morris was placed under
$.101 bail which was furnished by John
1. Davis, of North Hyde Park avenue.

A pleasant surprise party was held at
the home of Atr. and Airs, John Ruddy,
of Starrs avenue, Alonday evening. The
happy event was In honor of their
daughter Atnbel, who proved herself to
be a most charming hostess. At a sea
sonable hour refreshments were served

rlty. Allss Leah Samuels was tendered a
surprise parfy by her numerous friends

Work on Sewers Is Being Rushed
in This Part of the City.
An Evening Party.
Work on the sewers is being pushed to
tho limit on this side, and a good deal of
the work will be llnlshcd before the snow

Pittstou avenue, Hirch street and Keller
man court, while connections nro being
made on Cedar avenue,' Alder .street nnd
Willow street.
A large number of men are engaged
on the work, and notwithstanding tho
continued rain, remarkable progress has
been made.
A Pleasant Gathering.
A most enjoyable time was spent at
the home of Air. and Airs. John Car
penter, of 701 South Irving avenue, last
evening, when they were serenaded by a
party of friends and ncipiaintances. A
short reception at 0 o'clock was followid
by a genet n I good time, until 10 o'clock,
when refreshments were served, After
supper, a llashlighl picture of the party
was taken by Prank Kiihn, and all dis
persed at midnight, well pleased wltn
the evening's enjoyment.

Shamrocks, a newly organized team,
last' evening, The Shamrocks played
one of the llncst pass games ever seen
In the Auditorium, while the Stars
played like a lot of now beginners.
Atanager Connelly says the reason for
the defeat was the absence of regulars
and the luck of practice.
The Shamrocks played n brilliant
game and were successful by the score
of 12 to 4. During the second half,
Wells was Injured by fulling against

Before the Alderman.
Allehael Collck, of Brlsbln place, was
arraigned before Alderman Myers yes
terday, on the charge of disorderly con
duel and threats, preferred by John
Allshler. Collck, on the night previous
to the hearing, went to Allshler's home
and broke a window with the intention
of entering tho house to search for
money which ho believed was there.
Ho aroused Airs. Allshler and children
from bed and frightened them so that
they called on neighbors for help. Air.
Allshler at the time of the excitement
was in the central city. Tho alderman
lined Collck $2 nnd costs for disorderly
conduct, and held In default of $300 bail
to keep the peace, he was committed to
the county jail.
Election of Officers.
Tho Ladles' Catholic Benevolent union
held its annual election of officers In
the Young Alen's Institute rooms, Alon
day evening. The following officers
were chosen for the ensuing year:

ney. At the meeting which is to be held in
two weeks hence, an ice cream social
