in the services. Rev. Mr. Percy chose
his text from the eighth Psalm and
fourth verse, delivering an eloquent
discourse.
A new time table takes effect on the
Delaware and Hudson Honesdale
branch today. The change in former
trains is slight A new Sunday train is
added, arriving In Honesdale at 2.40 p.
'm. and leaving at 3.01 p. m.

The Olyphant Browns came to Hones
dale on Saturday and put up a good
game of ball on the silk mill ground.

ing. Some excitement was caused at tho
upper end of Third street Saturday
night by the disappearance of twelve
sear old Roscoe Bauman. He was last
seen at 8 a, m. Saturday, but no trace
of him was found until Sunday noon.
It was learned that he had been hecn
in the direction of Beech Lake. His un
cle, Mr. Woldnor, followed the trail and
overtook him at Catchall, near Xur
rowesburg. Ho was returned to his
home Sunday night. He was looking
for work on a farm.
Mrs. John E, Richmond Is seriously
ill at her homo on Second street.
An Ice cream social will bo held In
the Sunday school room at the Metho
dist church Friday evening, June 20.
Some local damago was done by the
severe thunder shower Sunday after
noon. Lighting struck the residence of
John Ort on lower Second sticet, and
shattered a door and ono sldo of the
house. At Bethany a bolt of lightning

church, demolishing the steeplo and
causing other damage to tho church.
The Bale of wind which accompanied
the showers destroyed a large number
of fruit trees .at Bethany and vicinity.

The sawmill In Birchtown, recently
burned, is to be rebuilt soon.
Many of the farmers In this vicinity
are obliged to burn wood, as there Is no
coal to be had in tho valley.
Fern, Hall is open, and the manager,
Mrs. C. E. Johnson, reports very en
couraging prospects for the season of
1902. A goodly number of boarders
have already arrived and many moie
are expected soon. Mrs. Johnson has
made very extensive arrangements to
accommodate her guests and all who
visit Fern Hall this year.
W. L. Decker, our postmaster, made
a business trip to Uniondale on Fri
day last.

gramme Is to be given. The Ladles' Aid
of the Methodist Episcopal and Baptist
churches will furnish entertainment for
all delegates nnd friends. Ice cream
will be fumisht ' after the evening ses
sion. Lightning struck the large barn at
Fern Hull on Sunday afternoon, about
4 o'clock, making havoo with the barn
and Its contents. Thero was In tho barn
at tho time the family horse Pete and a
valuable Jersey cow. Both were killed.
As it happened, all the other horses
and cows wcro out In pasture. Tho
lightning shattered badly four of tho
large posts of the barn, also a number
of the rafters, and tearing Into frag
ments tho cupola on the roof. What
seemed strange about it all was thero
was no lire. The lightning went right
down through a quantity of hay,
making a hole as large as a man's arm,
and yet there was no fire. The loss to
Mr. Johnson will be quite heavy, as tho
burn was very largo and hud but re
cently been repaired.
