JTew Spring Prlco-List a Good Indi cation That There Will Not Bo a Strike Minors Want a Union label on the Powder They Burn. Stove Moulders Get nn Increase of Wages of Five Per Cent. Mako-up of the D., L. and W. Board for Today. Tlir-ro will bo no iicneral strike at the mines tlilH spring the now spring price lists are a pood Indication of that. As to the various proceedings leading up to the Issuing of the price lists, much might be said. In fact, to some critics In the trade, the Shainokln convention with its absolutely Impossible resolu tions, the calling In of the Civic Fed eration, the famous conference between the presidents of sevoinl of the an thiaclte roads and the representatives of the Mine Workers, and the decision for a thirty days' truce followed by the announcement of spring prices, are all acts In a drutna, the hero of which is a distinguished member of the Civic Federation. That Is, the various acts followed In such rapid succession ns to preclude the Idea that everything was unpre meditated. However, operators and representatives of the miners have talked things over together, and cer tainly the organization of which Mr. Mitchell Is head has obtained recogni tion. Whether the rank and file of the miners will be satisfied with this or will make further demands, as has been the case with past organizations In the anthracite llelds, remains to be seen. It Is sufficient that this year will not see the miseries of a long-drawn strike. The new price lists are expected to bring out a lot of orders, particularly from the west, whete so many dealers last year, distrusting the permanency of the new order of things, delayed or dering until summer, and paid 30, 40 or Mc. more a ton for the privilege. In the Northwest thcie will be consider able supplies left on lake docks when the first boats arrive In the course of u week or so. The market at present is rather quiet. In Chicago territory dealers are preparing to look up their probable needs and cover their -wants ns soon as possible. Along the lower lakes and in Canadian territory theie lias been a fair degree of activity in the trade. Heie, as elsewhere, the new price lists were received with proper deference. Along the Atlantic seaboard some rather raw cold weather has kept up consumption pretty well, and the total demand has been large enough to satisfy dealeis. Engineering and Mining Journal. Union Label on Powder. The members of the I.ocal union No. 1681, United Mine Workers of America, have passed a lesolutlon directed to the president and directors of the Mooslc Powder company requesting that that corporation put the union label on all powder manufactured by it. The lesolutlon points out that the company's employes have recently or ganized a union and that the mlneis of ihe anthracite region are particularly desirous of using nothing but union powder. Increase in Wages. The one hundred and more moulders employed at the Scranton Stove works have been granted an increase of five per cent, in their wages. The Increase went into effect on April 1, and will bo continued Indefinitely. It was decided upon at a joint con feience held between the Iron Mould ers' National association and the Stove Manufacturers' National Defense asso ciation. D., L. and W. Board for Today.
