Mr. and Mrs. Charles Miller, of Edel
la, were callers in town last Wednes

I. O. O. F at their regular meeting
Wednesday night, elected the following
officers for the ensuing term: C. P.,
A. G. Woodruff: S. W., Zlba L. Hinds;
II. P., Charles Parker; J. W., Samuel
C. Reynolds. The encampment busi
ness was followed by the celebration of
their anniversary and a banquet. A
goodly number of the members of the
encampment with their families made
up thu assemblage which wan a lively
auo, good nalured one. The tables were
loaded with tempting viands of which
Justice was done to. Music and socia
bility took up the remainder of the
evening which Is looked forward to
onco a year with much anticipation
by the members of that branch of the
order, and their families.

for a patch of ground of sufllcient size
on which to speed their trotters. They
know who their sympathizers are.
Two of Wayne county's popular and
well-known Republicans are contesting
for the congressional nomination at the
county convention to be held In the
court house on Monday next. The pri
maries are to be held this (Saturday)
evening. Colonel Coe Durland and
Homer Greene, esq., are the candidates.
Wayne county workmen have broken
the record In bridge building. Five men,
under the direction of County Com
missioner George II. Seamans, con
structed a wooden bridge over Park
lake, east of Main street, In a little
over two and one-half days. Teams
could have crossed at noon the third
day, but for a delay in getting planus
there in six sixteen foot bents to bridge
the stream. The planking extends on
either side, making the length of the
bridge 173 feet. The high water Im
peded the progress of the work.
Auditor Ceneral E. D. Hardenbergh
is in town, taking in thu political situ
ation. Mis, Walter M. Fowler has gone to
Philadelphia with her cousin. Miss
Helen Hurlburt, who has been a guest
of Ilonesdalo friends.
Miss Ida Barnes is assisting with the
clerical work at tho Erie's East Hones
dale station.

day. The funeral of L, O. Tiffany, whoso
illness was mentioned in these items,
was held at his late home, in thu town
ship, yesterday and was conducted by
his pastor, Rev. D. L. Meeker, of tho
Lanesborough Methodist Episcopal
church. Interment will bo made today
at Union hill, Gibson township. Hi's
ago was 82 years.
Evangelist and Mrs. Llddell will close
their work here next Sabbath evening,
and go to Lake Vlow for a season. It
Is no fault of the evangelist that a
great work has not been accomplished
