West Plttston borough council and
poor board are at loggerheads as to who
shall settle for the bills Incurred during
the small-pox epidemic. The borough
council has already paid the bills, but
expect to be reimbursed by the poor
board. Attorney Ulbbs, for the former,
and Attorney Anderson, for the latter,
have decided to bring a test ease before
court.
An Italian, residing on the upper end
of Parsonage street, used a stovo poker
on his wife yesterday with bad effects.
The woman's head was split open n dis
tance of four Inches, and her arm was
badly bruised. A warrant wft Je is
sued for the man's arrest.
The Bloomsburg Normnl team will bo
here on ITrlday evening of this week
and will play their annual game with
the Y. M. C. A. team. The latter will
be at Bloomsburg on Thursday evening,
and the Normnl school boys will ac

Tunkhannock, JIarch 11. Two appli
cations have been placed on We for
tavern licenses at Foctorvville, one by
Charles A. Hlsk, for the hotel known an
the Slsk house; the other by Andrew
Keluii, for the Keystone hotel. ' No
licenses were granted there last year,
and it is rumored that remonstrances
will bo presented against the granting
of a license to either of these hotels.
James AVynd, who Is employed as
driver by David Seining, the express
man, will give up his position, about
April 1, and go to farming on Shupp
hill.
The Kaffir boys' choir will give a con
cert at the Piatt opera house on Sat
mday evening of this kk, for the
benefit of the Methodist Kpiscopal
church of this place.
Charles Kussnll, of Itut-sell hill, was
calling in town on Tuesday?

service In the Baptist church Sunday
for Thomas J. Harris, who died In the

vival services In the Methodist church,
and Is attracting large congregations
nightly. Ho is a very forceful preacher,

The funeral of Joseph, the fi-yeur-old
