of the borough have placed in nomina
tion for school director Nelson J. Spen
cer, editor of the "Wayne County Her
ald. In place of Mr. Crossley, who de
clined to bo a candidate.
ltev. II. A. Behrens will be Installed
as pastor of the Honesdale Lutheran
church next Tuesday evening, ltev. Dr.
J. Herschmann, of New York, will con
duct the services.
A slelghload of members of the
Honesdale Liederkranz drove to Haw
ley, Thursday evening, and were the
guests of the Hawley Maennerchor.
The last number of the Chrlstlnn En
deavor entertainment course will be

The third of the parlor talks by Miss
Susan E. Dickinson, treating on ancient

evening, and surprised Mr. and Mrs.

drug store, Thursday evening, and In

Another of Alden Benedict's produc
tions will be seen at the opera house,
Tuesday evening, February 11. All who
have read the novel "Thelma" will be
desirous of seeing the play presented,
as dramatized by Charles W. Chase.

Susquehanna, Feb. 7. The case of
Irving Van Valkenburg against tbo
township of Clifford is being tried at
county court this week. Mr. Van Val
kenburg claims $10,000 damages for In
juries alleged to havo been sustained
by the breaking down of tbo township
bridge.
The Erie, Itallioad company will havo
seventy locomotives built by contrai t,
thirty at the Baldwin Locomotive
works, at Philadelphia, and thirty In
the two locomotive shops at Paterson,
N, J.
In the matter of the flat machines
recently seined by the Law and Order
society of Hallstead, Judge Seurlo has
ordered the police to publicly destroy
the machines within thirty days, Tho
defendants are to pay all costs of tho
suit.
The Susquehanna County Teachers'

of the Presbyterian church, nnd their
friends were again entertained by Mrs.

and little son, Clarence, are recovering
from a few days' sickness.
Mrs. M. P. Currier has recovered from
a recent illness.
The handsome new 'bus. driven by
Fred Simpson, began its trips to and
fro across the river this week. It is
beautifully painted, and will furnish a
comfortable conveyance to travelers
between the two boroughs.
The Susquehanna County Teachers'
association will bo held in Hopbottom,
February L'S to March 1.
The Barber house, where the small
pox patients were conlined, is being
thoroughly fumlerated.
The conundrum social, which was
held at the home of Georce Hatfield,
was quite well attended. Proceeds,

Miss Luce, of Lawsvllle, was in town
Thursday evening.
Frank Nealls. of Scranton, a brake
man, had a narrow escape Tuesday
evening, lie was looking from the
window as tho enslne entered the
round-house, and his head was caught
between tho engine and round-house,
injuring his heud quite badly. Dr.
Schooniuaker was called to attend him,
and ho says he will recover.
David Gardner, a cigar manufacturer
of Montrose, was In town Wednesday,
looking after his numerous customers.
Mrs, Sidney Muck Is quite ill at her
home, on Chose avenue.
Superintendent Charles E. Moxley Is
having a new furnace placed In his
home, on Park avenue.
State Secretary K. B. Buekalew. of
Harrlsburg, will address the family
meeting nl the Young Men's Christian
association on Sunday afternoon. He
will also speak at the Methodist Epis
copal church In tho evening, which Is
