The United Mine Workers of District
JCo. 1 will hold their semi-annual con
vention at Wilkes-IJnrre, on Jan. IS,
190J. Fully 5C0 delegates will attend.
This will be the first convention since
the semi-nnnual sessions were adopted
at the Scranton convention In July.
("ieot'Ke Shiffer, outside foreman of
the Delaware mine at Hudson, oper
ated by the Delaware and Hudson
company, has tendered his resignation,
to take effect on Jan. 1. On the first
Monday In January, Mr. Shiffer will
become deputy controller of Lusserne
county. He has been In uhni'RC of the
Delaware mine for a number of years.
The Erie's surplus 1ms increased $l,
13,71(! in four months to October 31.
Without further pains the full -1 per
cent, will be earned on both classes of
preferred, and $1,421,S73, or over I per
cent,, will be earned on the common
during the current fiscal year. The first
preferred Is now on a It per cent, divi
dend basis, but the above Htrures justify
the expectation of an early Increase,
and of the placing of the second pre
ferred on a dividend basis soon.
