Tho Taxpayers' association have
again awakened from a lethargic stato
and Judging fiom the tone of Tuesday
night's meeting It appears as if they
are going to fulfil the purpose for which
they were organized. At Tuesday's
meeting the electric light conditions
were freely discussed. The committee
appointed by the association reported
that they had met the officials of the
electric light company nnd the council
committee, and at that meeting tho
otllclals stated that It was their desire
to fuinlsh light for what tho
borough could afford to pay. At
a later meeting of the council
It was reported by the com
mittee that they had another confer
ence with the electric light company,
thus Ignoring the taxpavers, as It was
the agreement nt the last meeting that
they all meet again. At that meeting
they suggested that n contract be
dtawn up nt the late of $1,700 per yeai.

ough cannot pay this amount, suggest
ed that another confeience be held nnd

The funeral of Mrs. Mary Lynch took
place yesteiday afternoon from the
u-sldenee of her sister, Mrs. Frank
HeMnn. Interment was made In St.
Mary's cemetery.
On Wednesday afternoon the Dela
ware and Hudfon passenger train due
here at 2.18 o'clock struck and Instantly
killed a man who had been walking
along the track. The body was taken
to the Avoca station, where, In his
pocket, was found an envelope with tho
name, Joseph Kltchuw. It wns his
pay at the Butler colliery, amounting
to J12.f0. Teter Lncuta took charge of
the body until yesterday afternoon,
when It was claimed by friends.
