went to the woods near by and car

While Tommy's wife was unpacking
a box lier attention was attracted 1iy a

looking' up. she saw a big snnke drop

from the house. Tommy grasped an
axe handle, and, surmising that ho
woidd have use for It, stood ready for
action, As the old bouse warmed tip.
snakes of various kind's, colors and
sizes- garter snakes, adders, rattle
snakes, blacksnakes and milk snakes
slowly unwound and came crawling
out of crevices and down from the.

hissing, wriggling and squirming.

For half an hour they continued to
drop into the flames at regular inter
vals, the frying flesh filling the cabin

fire place. In an hour the last snake
in the house had appeared, and the old
man gathered up the dead. There
were seventy-six, hy actual count, and
more than that number met death In
the llames. Tommy measured -20 feet
of snakes. After the battle Mrs. Tom
my returned to the house and all night
dreamed of sea serpents, sharks and
devil fishes.

Mock Run, have traits exactly alike.

The Rev. J. M. Correll, of the Metho
dist Episcopal church, Jackson, is In
poor health again, ills otllcial board
has granted him a vacation, which he
will enjoy among friends In Schuylkill
and Berks counties. He was in town
this morning arranging for supplies for
his pulpit during his absence.
A line drilling machine was unloaded
fiom the car Saturday, consigned to
Clark Every, who lives just outside tho
borough. Yesterday he took it over to
K D. P.rown's, in Jackson, where he
will (est its power boring a well.
