Dickson Locomotive Works.
The mammoth locomotive recently
built at the Dickson locomotive works
tor the Intercolonial railroad, has been
undergoing some (severe tests during
the past few days, under the direction
of Superintendent Helaney and Eu-m-iic
Cleveland, the inventor of tho
Cleveland cylinders, and the result is
eminently satisfactory. No changes
whatever were necessary, and the lo
comotive climbed the heavy grades on
ii... TicUawauna railroad as easy and
ginceful as could be expected of such
an iron monster.
Tliis is the third locomotive bunt
for the Intercolonial company with the
i -lowland cylinder included, and is the
lirst of an order of seven express and
live consolidation engines now being
luillt bv the Dickson Manufacturing
company.
Tho features of the Cleveland pat
eat is in overcoming cylinder conden
sation and back-pressure, or the resist
ance of exhausted stemn, thus facili
tating unlimited speed, increased
powei and decreased coal consump
tion. In conversation with The Tribune
iran yesterday, Mr. Cleveland unhesi
tatingly stated that this typo or loco
motive embodies the finest of every
thing that modern science Incorpoiales
In locomotive building, and that tho
Dickson Manufacturing company has
one of the best locomotive-building
plants in the world. Their employes
are exceptionally clever workmen, and
the products of the Siranlon shops are
making it name for themselves
throughout tho lailroad world that is
bound to be fell in the future.
