Secretary Hughes, of the school
board, Is busy those days supervising
the Improvement of the various school
grounds throughout the city. Yester
day morning a number of trees for
the grounds tit No. !i school arrived
nnd they were placed In the afternoon.
The work of grading the grounds at
the Central school building, where the
retaining wall was changed last fall,
when the addition was put on the
building, was begun thli morning.
NEW TRAIN TO NEW YORK.
The Delaware and Hudson and Erie
companies have now made arrange
ments for n through train to New
York, via Jlonesdnle, beginning next
Monday. No better route could be se
lected, as It Is the most direct from
this city, and will, no doubt, be lib
erally patronized by people In this
vicinity. Heretofore parsons travell
ing by this route have been obliged to
go by stage a mile below Honesdale
to reach the Erie train. The change
will be greatly appreciated.

About two hundred gathered on the
Riverside grounds yesterday afternoon
and witnessed un interesting foot ball
contest. Tho Park Hill stars, who woro
to have contested with a representative
team under the management of M,
Glynn, failed to put In an appearance,
and finally a team was selected from
among the spectators nnd was coached
by P. Jordan. The latter team when
lined up appeared to be quite fast.
Among It Its members was big Cog
gnns, who ut one time played tackle
on the Scranton eleven and did good
woik while the game was in progress.
It was Just 4 o'clock when Conch Jor
dnu lead his Invlnclblcs on the field.
They outweighed their opponents on
an average of ten pounds to a man.
Connolly kicked off to J. Evans, who
ndvnnced the ball about fifteen yards
but lost It In the scrimmage on an nl

three minutes after play commenced.
He failed to kick the goal. Howolls
kicked off for the home team and made
a long drive. Connolly caught the oval
but was downed In his tracks by Ev

The second half was commenced after
an intermission of ten minutes. How
ells kicked off. He drove the ball well
down the field. The oval was advanced
to tho middle of the field where it re
mained throughout the remainder of
the game and when time was called it
was in possession of the Invlnclbles.
