MRS. LYNADY DIES.
At halt past six yostordnV morning
typhoid pneumonia ended the life of
Mrs. Michael Lynndy, of DuiulufC
street. She was born in this city nnd
had always lived hero, and was well
known to a large number of Cnrbon
dallnns. She was a good Christian wo
man and her life was characterized by
many kindly deeds. She was a daugh
ter of 'Mr. and ..Irs Bernard Iirydon,
who are umonrr the pioneer residents
of this city nnd widely known among
the older inhabitants. Besides the
parents nnd husband, six children, the
oldest fifteen nnd the youngest two
years of age, survive. The children
nre: Gregory. James, Timothy, Ralph.
Beatrice and Joseph. There is also one
sister, Mrs. A. F. Cooke, of this city.
SELECT COUNCIL IN SESSION.
Select council met last evening nnd
decided to pay Giles . Loveland the
balance of $1,217.'J2 on the surface sewer
contract. The resolutions from com
mon council for the Improvement of
Battle avenue and the notiilcation of
the -Consolidated Water company to
lower pipes on the "West Side were con
curred in. The one for grading Ninth
avenue was referred. A sewer remon
strance from South Church street resi
dents was rend and the ordinance pro
viding for the work was killed. Co
lumbias requisition was granted with
'the exception of items for chandelier
and locks and keys. They were re
ferred to the building committee. A
requisition from the solicitor for mlle
nge .book for transportation of wit
nesses in the Hughes case was granted.

TEACHERS' SALARIES RAISED.
School board met last night and dis
posed of a lot of uninteresting routine
work. Not a word was said about the
Nolan settlement. The salary of Pio
fessor I.eshor, acting principal, was
raised $22.50 for September nnd that of
his assistant, Wilson Geary, $20. The
rise will not hold tlnough October un
less they continue in the capacities
in which they are now working.

Coming Fair and Festival Foot Ball
Team Organized Eisteddfod Pro
gramme Other News.
The members of Lackawanna lodgs,
No. 113, American Protestant associa
tion, are preparing to hold a fair nnd
festival in November in Weber's rink.
Many booths will be erected, at which
fancy articles and other notions will be
disposed of, Ice cream and candy will
also be on sale. Tho object of the en
terprise Is to secure funds to replenish
the lodge treasury, which has been
ebbing for some time, owing to a lui?e
amount of sickness and deaths.
A foot ball team has been organized
among our muscular young men. It
comprises eleven members, the best
selected from both of last year's teams,
and will adopt the same name, the
Alumnis. The members of the team
have secured the services iof Richard
Gendall, the talented quarterback, for
merly of the Wyoming seminaryand
Syracuse university, who will in all
likelihood take a similar position on
the team. Ho will give them a vigor
ous course of tralnlhg, and as soon as
proficiency is attained by the team,
championship games will be arranged
and played in this town. The make
up of the team thus far is as follows:
Owens, left end; Tubbs, left guard;
Ilnmmon, left tackle; P. Jordan, cen
ter; J. Evans, right guard; Miller,
right tackle; F. Jordan, right end:

Extensive preparations are now
under way for an eisteddfod to be held
in tho Welsh Congregational church
here on Christmas day. The chief
choral competition will be on Handel's
"Round About the Starry Throne," for
a party of mixed voices, not less than
thirty In number, for a prize of $30, and
a handsome chair to tho leader. A prize
of $10 Is offered for the best rendition
of children's chorus on "Sing Unto tlm
Lord," contained in Gospel hymns. Tho
double quartette competition will be
on Woodward's "The Radiant Morn,"
for a prize of $8. Other competitive
numbers will be as follows: Duet,
"Larboard Watch," prize $3; bass solof
"Noble Boy of Truth," prize $2; read
lupr music at first sight, four in num
ber, prize $1; solo, for poisons over
fifty years of age, "Brynia Cassia,"
prize $1; solo, for children under fif
teen yeais of age, "Are Your Win
dows Open Towards Jerusalem?" prizes
$1 and 50 cents. There will also be a
prize of $3 offered for the best essay
in English or Welsh -on "A Mother's
Influence on Society." Impromptu de
