Morgan, an employe at Alvord and

man about town, was united with Miss
Elizabeth Thomas In the holy bonds of

nt the home of the bride's mother,
Mrs. Mary Thomns and was attended
by the relatives of the contracting par
ties only.
ANTHRACITE WILL BE CLOSED.
It was announced yesterday that tho
Anthracite hotel will be closed on Oc
tober first. At lntervnta ot a few
months for the past two or three years
the owners of Hotel American and of
Hotel Anthracite have endeavored to
reach some sort ot nn agreement
wheieby one of these hostelrles might
be closed, to tho profit of the one re
maining open, but negotiations were
always declared off without having ef
fected the sought-for result. At last
It has been decided to close the An
thracite. The bar and billiard room
will remain open and the Krlo ticket
otrico will continue to have a place In
the building. Store rooms nnd offices
will bo offered for rent In the build

loused the Williams workings, near the
Munin colliery on the westerly hill,

Miss Mary Tallet, of Mayfleld, and
Mr. Michael J. Urennan, of Archbald,
were united In marriage nt Sncred
Heart church at 2.30 o'clock yesterday
afternoon. Tho ceremony was per
formed by Rev. M. E. Lynott, castor
of the church, and was witnessed by a
large number of friends of the happy
young couple. Miss Mary Wulker was
blrdesmald, and both the bride and her
maid were attired In pitty cream cos
tumes. The groom was attended by
Mr. J. Fan-ell, of Archbald.
Proprietor Johns, of the Sweeney
house, has a Just grievance ngalnst the
borough, and has been put to consider
able annoyance by the defective water
ditch running past his property to the
river. Last Friday evening his cellar
was Hooded and a considerable (juan
tlty of eatables he had there were
ruined j5 a result of the ditch belns
blocked. It would cost the borough but
a small sum of money to repair the
street and prevent Mr. Johns belns
similarly annoyed after every heavy
rainfall.
There will be a special meeting of
tho Catholic Mutual Deneflt society to
morrow evening at 0.30 o'clock.
Mrs. Michael Irving, of Cemetery
street, returned homo on Tuesday even
ing from Wllkes-Harre, wh'ere she has

Samuel, the ten-year-old son of Mr.
John Wearne, mt with a painful ac
cident Tuesday afternoon. The boy
had secured a dynamite cap and, not
knowing how dangerous nn object was
his plaything, attempted to fasten a
bicycle bell to the cap by a nail. The
cap exploded, mid save for the protec
tion of the bell, his hnnd would prob
ably have been torn in pieces. As it
was. tho hand war, badly Injured, the
