CARBONDALE.
TWO OPERATIONS IN A YEAR.
William Mellow, of Jermyn, Is hov
Intr more thnn hi share of Rurgery
showered upon him. To undergo two
laparotomies within a veur Is more
thnn most mortals are called upon to
do. About eleven months ago Mr. Mal
low ruftered appendicitis and had his
appendix jemoved. Pain and hardness
In that region during the pant two
weeks led his friends to believe the
old trouble had recurred. Yesterday
afternoon the patient was again oper
ated upon nt Dr. Wheeler's Private
hospital and a large abscess was
found. It contained nearly a quoit
of pus. At last account the youni:
man's condition was favorable. Ho
says he now remembers having
strained himself while at work and this
accounts for the trouble which puz
zled the physicians for several das.
SHUT OFF COAL SUPPLY.
The threatened strike has caused a
great stampede for coal at the Dela
ware and Hudson company's chutes in
this city. Some people seem to Imag
ine they will not gret another oppor
tunity to buy coal In six months, and
the rush kept the company guessing
until they had to refuse oiders. The
Palace creamery put In eight tons
one afternoon and when the driver
hauled up at the scales for the Inst
two-ton load to fill the bin the clerk
said "No more pea coal for you." So
he concluded he had enough anyway.
$1,000 HORSE DIES.
Harvey T, Frank Brown's fast
pacer, died yesterday of colic. Seveial
of the best veterlnanes of the county
tieated the animal, but to no avail.
He had been ill since last Filday. One
of the doctors said In speed, size, col
or and disposition the animal cannot
be replaced for $1,000. Mr. Brown was
offered JGOO for it last fall. Harry T.
was 9 years old and had a lecord af
2.191J.
