Is to raise funds to defray the ex
penses of the statue of St. Joseph that
Is to be placed over the St. Joseph's
altar In the now St. Rose church. Each
boy Is pledged to give not less than
one dollar, although by organized ef
fort much more per capita will be
raised. Another meeting will be held
next Sunday to arrange plans for
further work.
An organisation of the girls was also
formed. The young ladles will bend
their efforts toward furnishing nn nl

Martha, the two-year-old daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Cutler Goodwin, on

hospital, and at present Is resting com

Mr. and Mrs. Finnic Elmer, Mr. nnd
Mrs. Theodore Elmer and family left
Saturday for a two weeks' camping
trip at Newton lake. Dingle Hell Is

OBJECT TO ITALIANS.
There Is quite a stir among the em
ployes of the Traction company. It Is
claimed by some of the men that one
day last week Motorman Swingle was
discharged for not Instiuctlng Joe
Gray, an Italian, In running the car.
Other motormen say they will not
show him anything, and there may be
some trouble ahead.

to depart on their promising to leave
the borough.
The picnic of the Mayfleld band, ar
ranged to take place on ednesdny
afternoon, has been postponed until

One of the chief topics of conveisa
tion now Is the coming excursion of
the Citizens' band and local Foi esters
to Lake Lodoie next Satin day. 'Ihe
Interest In the affair has been quick
ened by the attractive piogt.imme of

be contested for at the lakeside, first
and foremost of which is the veterans'
foot race. Among those entered are
Poor Director Harry Reeves, Council

The 10- car-old daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. James Lutey, of Third stteet,

The Ladies' Aid society of the Pri

Marlon, the wife of Mr. DuRnld
Oreen, who has been In the bakery
business In this place for tho past elev
en years, died on Sunday, Mrs. Oreen
died after nn Illness of less than a
week. She wns born In I.eadhllls Lan
ark Shlro, Scotland, In 1812. She was
a daughter of the late John Ateheson,
cashier for tho I.eadhlll Mining com
pany, Scotland Mr. and Mrs. Oreen
came to America with their family In
1SS9 and havo since resided In thls
place. The deceased leaves a husband,
four daughters and three sons. The
eldest Is Mrs Itoblnson, of Kngland,
Mrs. Brown, of Avoca, Mr. William
Oieen, of Xew York city; John Oreen,
of Wyoming; Dugald Oren, of Mooslo;
Mrs. Smith, of London, England, and
Miss Elizabeth, the only one living at
home. The funeral services will bo
held In the Presbyterian church, of
which the deceased was an active mem
ber, at 2 o'clock this nfternoon. Tho

Funeral of John S. Davis Damage

The lemalns of the late John S. Da
vis, of Haibertown, were laid to rest
yesterday In the Foiest Homo ceme
tery. Long befoie tho appointed hour
his late residence was thronged with
sympathizers and relatives, who 1ml

memoiy of the departed. The funeral
services were conducted at the Nebo
Congregational church by the pastor,
Rev. J. J. Jenkins, and Rev. Dr. II. H.
Hairls, of this town. A quartette of
vocalists sang several appropriate se
lections at the services. The Knlchts
of the Golden Eagle lodge and United
Mine Woikers attended the funeral In
