an Illness of cancer, from which she

three years. Deceased was born In
Scott, eighty-three yearn ago, when
this borough and the whole region
hereabouts was nothing but a wilder
ness. Vhen In health It was' most In
teresting to hear her descilbe some of
the events of her early life. She Is
survived by a son, John, of Olyiihant.

A woman with a small child, giving
her name as Julia Klpp, of Warsaw,
N Y., was put off a Lehigh Valley
train at this station on Wednesday.
They were on their way to Scranton
and ran out of funds. The woman ap
plied to the poor masters of the bor
ough for relief, but failed to get It.
'Squire Kutz took her to a hotel and
obtained lodging for her and the child
and in the morning, through the gen
erosity of the 'squire and other per
sons, she was forwarded to her destin
ation with money In her pocket.

A meeting of tho property-holders
was held last evening for the purpose
of forming a taxpayers' union. The
exorbitant rates and excesses now ex
isting in the town are Intolerable and
for this reason the citizens hope to
foim n union that will set aside tho
caprices of wily politicians and un
wise councllmen.
A young daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Thomas McNalley was Interred In St.
Mary's cemetery yesterday afternoon.
The A O. If. joint excursion Monday
to Harvey's lake will probably be the
largest that left tho town this season.
Several hundred tickets have been sold
