The officers and members of Company M, Thir teenth regiment, N. (J. P., of this place, were very much surprised on Thursday of this week to receive no tice from headquarters that their com pany would bo mustered out of the guard and that all state property win to be turned over to the proper au thorities. The reason alleged Is tho failure of the company to come up to the standard at the last Inspection. The company has labored under disad vantages from the start In not having a suitable armory, but were doing ns well as possible under the circumstan ces and when the Inspecting ofllcer at the Inst Inspection commended their progiess they felt much encour aged. Preparations were under wav to either build or rent a suitable place for nn ntinnry nnd the company had quite a fund on hand for that purpose. The action of tho authorities In dis banding the company here Is undoubt edly due to the plan lor the reorgan ization of the gunrd, In which several companies will have to lie drouped to bring about such an organization ns is contemplated. Cases have been ie celved for the rllles and thev will bo shipped to Harrlsburg as soon as pos sible along with the other property and tho men will then be discharged. 10. K. The Thoroughbred Excels in Intelli gence, as This Incident Shows. 1'ioiu tin- V-w ork Press. In the last few years tho thorough bred Scotch collie has become falrlv well known, by name and appearance nt least, to the general public, because the breed has been a favorite among kennel owneis for show dogs. Put the animals are too expensive for the av erage purse, and consequently com pai.ittvely little Is known about the nm.irkable traits of this strain. Yet there piobably Is no more Intelligent animal In the whole dog world than Is the true Scotch collie today. One of the noted Scotch collies In this country Duncan Grey figured in an Incident a few days ago that shows well the sagacity of the breed. Dun can Grey, who Is famous for the excel lence of his get, belongs to John Fln layson, of the Ilosehlll ke nnels, In Me tuchen, N. J., where some of the best sable- collies In the country have been In 'd. In his employ as ruler of the kennels Is n man known briefly ns "Doe," whom all the dogs love, for he JONAS LONG'S SONS. A '2 St. Gall, Switzerland, is the embroidery center of the universe. Once a year the extensive manufacturers there gather up all their odd pieces, pack them into case lots, and ship them to their American representatives, where they are sold at tremendous sacrifice. Merchants are indeed fortunate, who get hold of them. The Lot Here Consists of Four Thousand Yards of the Daintiest Edges and Inserting, Worth Up to 90c the Yard, to Be Sold Tomorrow at I I The I A G Some of the Edgings are wide enough for flounces, others are narrow and verv delicate. We do not believe believe that never before have such exquisite patterns in embroideries been sold in Scranton. There is no limit to the quantities one may buy, though none will be sold to dealers. Mail orders will be promptly filled in the order of their receipt by us. READY TUESDAY MORNING AT 9 O'CLOCK. I lias complete charge of them, and they never want for anything when he Is around. Dutuau Ou-y particularly has deep affection for "Doc," nnd if one of them Is seen anywhere it is certain that the other Is not far away. On Mr. Flnlayson's stock farm near the kennels Is a large pond, bildged with a nariow plank. A few days' ago "Doc" was crossing the bridge with a heavy ladder on his shoulders, when lie slipped and fell Into the water with the ladder on top of him. He had been knocked senseless, nnd when lie recov eied lie was tangled so badly In the weeds and grasses on the bottom of tho pond that he could not extrlcato himself. Duncan Grey had leaped in nfter him nlmost Instantly, but all his tugging nnd hauling were In vain. The wise beast did not waste much time, lie must have realized (pilckly that ho could not help his friend unaided, for within a few reconds after the acci dent he had scrambled out of the pond and was off like a shot barking furi ously. "Doe" believed himself de serted nt first, but wan undeceived quickly when .Mr. FInlnys-on appeared on the run with the collie leading him. "Doe" was pulled out Just in time. Ho had sunk nearly to his mouth In the water when help enme. Duncnn CJrey had rushed straight to the barn, where his owner was, ana had seized hhn by the sleeve and be gun tugging nt him. Luckily Mr. Kin layson leallzed at once that such ac tions on the part of the usually digni fied and stntely dog meant something, so he lost no time In obeying the mani fest wish of the collie Hint ho should follow him. onas TomorrowTuesday In connection with our Gigantic July Clearing Sale, we shall present one of the strongest attractions ever offered by any mercantile house in America, It should, and will, undoubtedly, crowd the main avenues of this Great Store.
