DUN'S REVIEW OF TRADE.
Damngo to Wheat Crop of the North
west an Event of Importance.
New York, June 22. H. CS. Dun &
Company's Weekly Review of Trade
tomorrow will say:
Tho damage to the wheat crop of
the northwest Is tho event of chief Im
portance. How extensive the loss may
prove in view of the widely conflicting
accounts, enn only be Judged from the
speculative markets In which Informa
tion gathered at the west has caused a
remarkable advance, at Chicago 15
cents in ten clays and tho price hero
has advanced 11 cents per bushel,
though the September option is only
1) cents. The belief Is that so largo a
part of the spring wheat has, been
killed as to reduce a yield expected to
be close to the largest on record to
conslderaly Iobs than the world has
required during the crop year now end
ing. The closing of manufacturing works
at this season has a double meaning.
Tho labor organizations seek In the
summer vacation 11 settlement of wr.ges
for tho coming year. Last year the
pressure for products was so great
that concessions were readily made and
others altered so that the rate of wages
became the highest ever known since
the currency was settled. This year
extensive demands are being made
with approach to settlement, as yet
in many of the branches of business
so that the summer vacation may be
more extensive and In some lines long

In Iron and steel, progress toward
that end waa made when the Btruc
tural producers a week nfjo reduced
the prices of beams to $1.00 and angles
to $1.80 nt Plttsburis4, leaving only rails
and tin plates which have not been re
duced from the hlifhest points, Tho
rail worlts are crowded far ahead, and
tho question In tin plates depends
largely upon wages. Eastern bar is re
duced to $1.55 and steel bars to $1.50
nt Pittsburg, with a general shutting
down of works expected July 1. Hoops
are quoted there at $2.15, and No, 2
black sheets at 27 cents, buyers asking
only for small lots, There Is a wldo
range ot quotations for merchant steel
and tho lower prices named for pipe
have only started the demand a little,
as buyers expect yet lower quotations.
Minor metals are also quiet, with small
transactions,
Lower prices nro again reported for
several grades of cotton goods and aro
