HIGH SCHOOL COMMENCEMENT.
The High school commencement ex
ercises will be held In the tirand Opera
House Wednesday evening, Juno 27,
1900. In addition to the salutatory and
valedictory essays and the oration
there will be a vocal solo by Miss Mlna
Frank; a violin solo by Miss Marie
Oraham; piano duet, Misses Glennon
and Itolls, and music by n double quar
tette and the High School orchestra.
The principal feature of the evening's
entertainment will be an addiess by
M. F. conry, esq., of ScrajitAn,' a grad
uate of the University ftfjjfc-MJehlgan.
He will speak on "The feV of the
ltepubllc." Mr. Conry Is ncKnow ledged
to be the most eloquent speaker In tho
Electric City. He Is ulso prominent
among the lawyers theio.
Mayor KHpatrick will award the
prizes offered by several citizens at
the beginning of the term and Super
intendent Elmer 33, Oarr will confer
tho diplomas.

At half past four yesterday afternoon
Rev. Ilollln A. Sawyer, of Trinity
Episcopal church, united In marriage
Miss Martha J. Colo and Albert J.
Moon. The ceremony wns pei formed
at the home of tho bride's mother, on
Brook street. Miss Delia Vandermark,
of Lexington, Ky., was maid of honor
nnd Frederick Moon, best man. A col
lation was served nnd the young people
left for the sea shore. They v 111 reside
with Mrs. Cole.
A JUNE WEDDING:.
A very pretty June wedding occurred
yesterday morning at 9 o'clock, when
Miss Margaiet, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. James Morrison, of South Main
avenue, was led to the altar by John
N. Nealon, the deputy postmaster. Tho
pair were united by Father James Mof
flt, an uncle of the groom, and Mrs
James P. l.oftus, an aunt of the groom,
presided at tho organ. The bride was
prettily attired In a traveling gown of
dark blue broadcloth, with braid trim
mings, and hat to match.
DEMANDED MORE PAY.
E. M. Powers, tho contractor, who
Is engaged In clearing up the big tract
of land south of Park street, Is having
troubles of his own. Some of the men
employed at cutting away the under
brush struck for an lnciease of salary
on Tuesday. They were receiving $1.50
per day, but as they had to woik In a
swampy place, where snakes were
sometimes found, they asked for $2 per
day. The request was not complied
with and a number of Italians wore
put to work In their places.

Mrs. W. S. Woes has returned from
a visit with friends at New York city.
Mr. Elmer Huberts left yesterday for
a few days' visit with his' parents, Mr.

Mies Maigaret Walsh, of Noith Scran
ton. The bridal couple left last even
ing for a week's bridal tour. Upon
their return they will reside In a neat

yesterday. One of the prettiest was
that of Miss Evelyn Wheeler and
Giant L. Bell, which took place last
evening In the Methodist Episcopal
church. In (he presence of seveinl hun

plants, ferns nnd palms, and suspend

The wedding was a quiet one and was
witnessed by a number of the friends
und relatives of both families, Rev, D.
P. Jones, of Scranton, performed the
Interesting ceremony. A repast was
afterwards held and throughout the
evening a reception was held, In which

gave their congratulations and wished

The borough council met Tuesday
evening with nil members piesent. The
following bills wu'-j ordered paid: Mr.
Thompson, for services as surveyor,
$160; A. B. Dunning, for sei vices as
surveyor, $178; George Bachman, for
work done on road, $50. The lock-up
committee made their report nnd sug
gested that tho council purchase tho
vacant lot between the Spring Brook
bridge nnd Thomas Glllett's property.

Master James Ryan, of Oak street,
was badly bitten on the right leg on
Tuesday evening by a large dog ow ued
by a man named Stepnle Young. Ryai
was taken to the olllce of Dr. J. W.
House-, who cauterized the wound.
Police Ottlcer Morris dispatched the
canine on that same evening.
The advent of the De Moss family
of musicians, who will appear at the
Welsh Baptist church on Thursday
evening, June 28, promises a musical
treat rarely heaid here. Tickets are
selling inpldly and can be had from
members of the congregation.
Dr. and Mrs. Adam Stegner, of Rend

mer's parents, Foreman and Mrs, Giles

It seems that tho now butter factory
will soon be a teallty, the required
amount of stock having been nearly all
subscribed.
The lawn festival which wns ap
pointed to be held nt the homo ot Mrs.
Martha Bell on Tuesday evening, was
transferred to the house on nccount
of the dampness, caused by recent
showers.
Mrs. Bell did much to entertain
those present and all enjoyed the oc
casion very much.

Park association, were guesets at the
WInola on Sunday. They are making
extensive Improvements on their prop
erty, adjoining tho WInola House
grounds. They report that the roads
between Scrnnton and Lake WInola
are In excellent condition for driving.
Miss Helen Brenton, of Wllkes
Barre, Is a guest at the'Wlnola.
Mr. Houck and daughter, of Pitts
ton, spent last week at the lake, get
ting their cottage ready for the sum
mer. Mr. Charles Law and family, of
