The grand Jury came Into court yes
terday afternoon and through its fore
man, Alfred Harvey, made its llnal re
turn to the court and was discharged.
In the absence of Judge It. W. Arch
bald, who churged the grand Jury, tho
report was received by Judge II. JI.
ndward.s. He made no coi unent on
the work of the Jury, merely thanking
the members In the usual manner for
their services for the county.
In the liquor cases passed upon there
was only one Instigated by the cru
saders. That was against Mrs. Jennie
Duffy, of Iirldgo street, who Is charged
with selling without a license. County
Detective Lcyshon is the prosecutor.
A tiue bill was returned. The other
liquor cases aio tho ordinary run that
come before every grand Jury.

a few minor changes at tho county

Pittsburg, May 16. The American
Manufacturer will say tomorrow:
The Iron and steel markets aro bo
ginning to recover and those who went
on record during the steel and wire
panic to tho effect that four or five
weeks would witness a re-action in
favor of the producers are Inclined to
call attention to their statements. Dur
ing the week buyers came back slowly
and lnquries grew from day to day
until there Is a good volume of busi
ness In motion, with every indication
of gradual increases, and inquiries are
moving along to the producing sources
freely. This condition will prevail In
all probability until July, or say late
In June.
Duilng the week some life showed
in Jlcssemer, which Is taken as tho
advance movement of the business for
the latter half of the year. The aggre
gate of transactions did not exceed
probably one thousand tons, but that
Is more than has moved for some
weeks, since the furnace owners an
nounced that their production for the
flrst six months had been disposed of.

In finished lines the activity is seen
and felt more than during the past
two weeks, both as to actual business
and Inquiries, and tho better part of
the improvement Is that business Is
not directed to one or two, but all
kinds of finished stuffs.

In his New York letter in the Phila
delphia Press yesterday, that well-informed
writer, Holland, says:
On the surface In railway circles there appeals
to be liillc Interest In the announcement that
the Wabash and the Lackawanna have completed
arrangements, or soon eipect to complete thun,
by which passengers can be transported over
these lines between New York and Oiici,-o in
twenty-five hours. Rut this indifference in other
railway circles Is only apparent.
The announcement has occasioned a goj'i dell
of disturbance. If It be possible for the Lacka
wanna and Wabash together to deliver passen
gers, making through trips,' to either city In
twenty-flvc hours, then, one of two things will
happen. Either there will be a renewal of -ate
cutting for passengers or re-arrangement of diJcr
entials. Some of those who are In touch with th: Lick
avvanna people seem to be of the opinion that
the tlmo has come to establish, upon all files
