At the Gaiety.
Time has uiought many changes in many
things dining the past generation, and in all
sorts of business we Rnd the most radical changes
as well as in the people themselves. Of course,
(he theatiical world has revolved ss rapidly as
any, and, what would be called great shows in
the early days would be very mediocre now.
Pour Shakespeare seems (o be foigotten In the
busy whin, and his placs are seldom seen these
days, which fact Is sad to relate.
Comedy, music, farce and burlesque arc In the
sail, and tne burlesque seems In have the call.
What is the reason? Simply, they cater to the
popular taste. To sum it all up, tragedy is
dead, diama in some instances great, comedy,
immense, but burlesque sunpfy heads the list.

M. W. Ilanley claims to present not only a
splendid scenic and costume production, hut
also the strongest array ot companion players

actor and consequently a splendid performance
may be expected. The character of lloublllae,
the Italian arcst of the period of 1WI, affords
Mr. Mantell, it is said, the best opportunity he
has e'er had to display his powers as a romantic
actor, and as scenery and costumes count for
much these ds)s in a play's success, there will
be a lavish display of these in the present In
stance. De Angelis Wednesday Night.
