MRS. MARY PENGELLY DIES.
Mrs. Mary Pcngelly, of Bhkett sttect,
died yestciday forenoon. She had suf
fered from cancer for some time, but
did not give up until two weeks ugo.
Deceased was born In Plttston. nearly
forty-Hve years ago. She had resided
heio twenty-eight years. Her maiden
name was Nicholson. Hv her death
the Methodist church and Ladles' Aid
society loo one of their most active
w 01 kers. She Is survived by five daugh
ters and one son, all unmarried. A
father, mother, tlueo brothers and one
sister, all of this city, also mourn her
loss. The funetal will be at 3 o'clock
this afternoon. Rev. A .F. Chaffee will

Mnpleuood.

SCHOOL TEACHER BURIED.
The funeral of Miss Belinda Cat roll,
who was a teacher In the public
schools, was lurgely attended e8tel
day morning. The school board, super
intendent and teachers were ptesent.
The floral offerings were beautiful In

John Flnneran, of this city, and Thom

SPILLED HIS MILK.
The hoi &e of Krncst Gladell, who ele
livcts milk for the Palace creamety,
was frightened by a dog on the West
Side, yesterday and It backed the wagon
Into a creek, tipping It over, spilling
the milk, throwing out and Injuring
the driver, losing Its own equlllbilum
and rteatlng havoc- generally. Six men
straightened the outfit up, but no ef
fort was made to tcclalm the milk

The school directois held their tegu
lar monthly meeting last evening. A
number of bills were read and oideted
paid. Chairman Prltchard, on behalf
of the -visiting committee, made a te
port of their visits to the school, u-htch
were of a very satisfactory natttte.
Miss Mulholland, one of the high
school teachers, tendered her resigna
tion, which was accepted, and the
boatd decided to meet next Tuesday
evening to 1111 the vacancy and to
elect a new teacher. By motion, the
secretaty was Insttucted to put chase
the necessary supplies needed for the
balance of the school term. The sec
tetary read a tinanclal repot t which
ho had prepated at the request of the
members. Messrs. Blake, Loughney
and Shields were appointed the visit
ing committee foi the present month
and the board adjourned.
William Loughney, a well known
)oung man, who has been drinking
hea ily of late, yesterday afternoon
entered the shop of Tommy Glazier,
on Main street, and demanded the loan
of a dollat. Upon Glazier's refusal to
respond to the demand, Loughney
sttuck him and, picking up a shoe,
"went outside and deliberately threw it
thiouglt the window. Mr. Glazier had
a w at rant sworn out and Loughney
was ariehted. When he appeared be
foie 'Squire Swlck he was confronted
with the charge already mentioned and
an additional one sworn out by his
brother on the charge of foicibly tak
ing possession of his mother's house
and temoving a petition of the house
hold funltuie. Being unable to furnish
the necessaiy ball, and at his own ie
quest, he was committed to the county
jail.

The fair In the Congregational
chuioh was again largely attended last
evening and pioved to be a strong at
traction. The entettalnment was
again quite successful. The fair will
be continued tonight and an excellent
piogtamme has been prepared to en
tertain those who attend.
