THEATRICAL.
The Patricolo Concert.
One of the most pleasing and enjoy
able numbeis of the Brockway couisc
was given at the Lyceum last night
by the Patricolo company, which is
composed of SIgnor Angelo Patricolo,
pianist; Miss Eleanor Goodman, so
piano; Miss Ruth, Anderson, violinist,
and Miss Jennie D. Shoemaker, leader.
The piogiamme was varied and judi
ciously arranged and was executed
with great skill by the peifoimeis.
SIgnor Patricolo is a pianist of more
than ordinary ability and his rendi
tion of his first number last night, "La
s-omnambula," established him as a fa
voiite with the. audience. He hid to
lespond to an encore. His other num
bers weie alFq moie encores.
Miss shoemaker, a young woman who
possesses true diamatic nbillty, made
perhaps the most pronounced hits of
the evening by her recitation of a dra
matic fragment taken from iiQuo Va
dls." The singing of Miss Goodman
and the lolln playing of Miss Ander
son were very pleasing features of the
evening's entertainment.
"The Great Diamond "Robbery."
Last night the Klimt-Hearn company
presented "The Great Diamond Rob
bery" at the Academy of Music before
a delighted audience. In the afternoon
"A Millionaire's Daughter" attracted
a large audience,
This afternoon "Held by the Enemy"
will be repeated and tonight "Mr.
Haines of ,New York" will be given.
At Finey Ridge.
The title, "At PIney Ridge," suggests
a military play and In this respect It
Is both true and misleading at tho
same time. The play is not u war
diama in the ordinary sense. It deals
with tho rebellion in a reminiscent
fashion, in that it portrays somo of
tho diie icstilts and cruelties of war,
and appeals also to the highest mo
tives of patriotism, but In Its most
fCectie side it Is a play of peace, i
stoiy of tho flieslde.
It Is free fioni tnnt and cheap heroic)
nnd tells Its plain simple stoiy In
plain, yet poetic fashion; poetlo be
cause, It Is plain and plainly told.
Without ilouilsh, Mr. Higgins has
given us in this play a dtami, the
lush of whose events knows no stop
from the first to the final fall of tho
curtain. Without hurry or lll-consld-eied
scenes, for all thi details of the
play aie vital to tho main thread of
the plot, It absoibs the attention from
tho beginning and unfolds It to tho
end. This utti action will bo seen at
tho Lyceum tonight.
"Because She Loved Him So."
William Gillette's "Because She
Loved Hltn So" will be piesented
next Fiiday, Feb. )6, nt the Lyceum.
The piece Is u faice of stntlmintal
proclivities and its possession of pop
ular elements is dtmonstiated by the
long and tilumphant tun which it had
at tho Madison Squato theater, New
York, last season. Ch.ules Fiohman
produced the farce and sends It here.
He has declaicd It to bo the funniest
and most successful fiice he has ever
handled, which meanr a eood deal,
for ho has handled veiy successful
plays.
