Harbor, Ecypt, Nov. 2S Port Hal.l H
on the north const of IJgvpt find about
ir,0 miles from Cairo. It In built on
the lowlands and Is moiu like an
American city than unv vo h.ivc soon.
It Is a beautiful spot and has a beau
tiful harbor. M'o arc about n mllo or
two irom the city, and T think wo will
be movlnR In about two hours. I iret
tired staying In port so Ioiir. We all
want to Ret over there and they can't
Bet uh over theio quick cnouuh. U
will take about twenty-four hours to
Bo throuRh the canal. Suez Ih at the
other end, and the belief Is that wo
stop there too.
I would not have misted this tilri
for anything. Tt Is nn education In
itself well worth twenty months
hardship. Hero we arc about 100 miles
eouth of Suez and I believe wc aia
going Into the Red "t. Wo left Port
Said last night about 10 o'clock and
wended oui way throu;:h the "Gloat
Suez Canal." licfotc leading Port Said
we had to take nn a complete "elcctilo
plant fiom the inglre down to the
lights, because th.-y won't allow any
boat to pro through with their own
lights. Wc anhtd at Suez this morn
ing about 11 o'clock. It Is n veiv
barren countiy Indeed. Kvery tlmo
two boats pans on the cunil, one has
to tie up to let the other pass.
SAW TUKKISH SOLDIERS.
While putting off tlm tlocttlc p'ant
at Suez, a TutkMi viel pas-tod us
with a lot of Tmklsh soldleis on boatd.
We hae alieady crrssul the spot
where Moses led the children of Israel
across the lied sea. Wo aie half way
to our destination now and In about
four weeks wo will Lo at cur Jouine'3
end.
Nov. 21.-Tomnnow will be Thanhs
giving day and we will hae our
Thanksgiving dinner furnished bv Miss
Helen Gould. There isn't much going
on aboard ship. We saw some tlyin
tlsh this nfteinoon; they weie about
six Inches long.
Nov. 30 Well, we h.ic had our
Thanksgiving dinner and we nil en
joyed it very much Hcie Jv our menu:
Tloiht turkey, tranbtiiy sauce, mashed
potatoes, gt.iw, biead co'fee, oiannes.
It is getting finite w.itm now, and In
two weeks we espei t to h' almost to
the equator. Then we go northeast to
the Philippine". Ever thing in the
way of dilll is dispensed with today
on nccount ot the holiday. It seems
almost like Siinrtav. Ue hien't had
a drop of riln sliuu we left Malta.
We will suiely stav of at Colombo,
on the Isle of 'elon. We hnvc only
one stop aftei that, and that Is at
Singapore In the Malay peninsula;
nfter that we utilko Manl'a. We have
jU"t passed what they call the "Twelve
Apostles" mat big jorks in the sea.
1 don't think we will lv anywheio near
Aden until morning. We hae moved
our iiiait(i.s now and aie on.- deck
higher. We will go thiough tho Sttalts
of K-ibel Mond.iv, and when w get
to the othci mil w. go thiough what
is called "Tho elite of Te.us."

When we icaeh Slngapoio we will be

Dec. 6 We aro very near to Colombo
There Isn't much news to be had on

tlno dallv. There Is a iumor aiound
that we won't be any longer than four
weeks In Manila before wo uio oidered
home, but, as you know, all minors
don't come true and I don't think this
one will.
Wo oxpect to be 111 bight of Ceylon

This and That.
The Inylng of tracks being now com

will begin to run next Monday on the
toad between Carbondale and Hones
dale. The new station will has ulso
been finished at Honesdale.
The ofllclals of tho Mai Ion Heights
colliery, near Mt. Carmel, are delighted
over tho finding of another vein of co it.
This new vein is located east of tho
shaft and the vein Is ten und one-fifth
feet thick. The new bleaker will bu
put up next spring.
It Is Intended to transfer the two
main trucks on the Lehigh Valley rail
road at Coxton, which at present run
thiough the centie of the ynrd, to the
extieme left. This will leave all the
Hacks on the right of the main line
and will enable tho crews to proceed
with their woik In the yard without
looking out for the scheduled trains.
Fight or ten new tracks tue to bo
laid and other changes In Hacks are
contemplated.
Several Impoi tant changes have been
made In the switch scivlce In tho Le
high Valley yard at Sayre. A number i
of switch engines have been taken off
and assistant yatdmastcrs will bo re
quired to perform the duties of head
switchmen. The men oldest In point
of services will be pioxlded with regit
lar positions and the other place on th
extra list. What was known as tho
legulnr shift between Sayre and Wav
etly has been discontinued and the
service will be perfoimed by whatever
crow happens to be available. The
changes will affect perhaps fiom sixty
to seventy-live employes.

of Taffeta and Fancy Silks.
It is a tempting price we oflfer these great lots of goods for.
The mere reduction in the figures is attractive, and properly so.
But its not alone the prices that count.
Big things in silk and dress goods selling are a part of our
daily store life, and we wouldn't waste much time or talk on
limited quantities or commonplace values. 'The silks and dress
goods we offer in this sale are neither limited nor common.
Thousands of yards remarkable aside from their cheapness.
This is a part of a sweeping clearance effort. It was
many years ago that we ceased to carry our winter goods
through the summer. These are silks and dress goods for the
fall and winter 1899 an I900- Not one yard shall be sold in
