Royal Baking

Royal Baking Powder
possesses peculiar quali
ties not found in other
leavening agents, which
arise from the superior
fitness, purity andhealth-
fulness of its ingredients.
Royal Baking Powder leavens the food perfectly
by its own inherent power without changing or
impairing any of the elements of the flour.
Thus the hot-breads, hot-rolls and muffins, and
the delicious hot griddle-cakes raised by the Royal
Baking Powder are wholesome and digestible, and
may be catti without distress, even by persons of
delicate digestion.
Alum baking powders arc low priced, a? nltim costs but
two cents a pound ; but alum is a corrosive poison and
it renders the baking powder dangerous to use in food.

CONDITION OP ANTHRACITE
COAL MARKET.
Set Forth In the December Letter

Lower Prices Until Spring D., L.

tions for the Proposed Tin Plate
Plant
With 'ivfert'nee to the present con
dition of tlii anthracite coal ni.vket
the Decern!) i' lettoi of the Anth a;llo
(. oal Operakrs' association sa3.
The past month has fully justified
the predictions made dining the sum
mer as to u scarcity of fuel. At every
point of the market this dlillculty has
been oxpetlenced. Ftom Maine to Min
nesota there have been complaints, and
It has been only because of the mod
erate weather that the hhortuse has
not caused moie serious consequents.
Prices have been llrm, as mleht In
expected under these conditions, and
concessions have been rare. Such coal
us hat. Rone forwatd on old ordeis has
not been sutllelent to disturb the mar
ket at any point, nor has the an
nouncement of the construction of a
new railroad from the mines to tide
been a disturbing factor in prices.
The Western market has been fa
vored by the mild weather which has
permitted shipments by the lakes, but
the scarcity of vessels and high prices
charged have fenced an unusual pro
portion of coal to go by rail. The same
difficulty as to vessels h.n been ex
perienced In the New England market.
Recently, vessel rates from Baltimore
to Boston -were $2 tier ton, and a
schooner from Philadelphia to Aug
usta, Maine, received $3.50 per ton.
As showing the unusual demand, the
following llgures give the receipts of
coal at Boston from January 1 to De
cember 4, 1SS8:
1S99. ISPS.
Anthracite ... 2,0tL,0o 1,696. 51
Bltumlnolis... 1,590,597 l,B01,:!9l
With the beginning of December the
companies find themselves unable to
fill nil of the orders offered for prompt
delivery. Kven allowing for the ton
nage available now that Lake ravlga
tlon has closed It is doubtful whether
the total of December deliver!' s v 111
equal the demand. This would h e
serious results, especially In the East
ern maiket where the dealers have had
an extraordinary demand for nnthra
clte, owing to the scarcity of bitumin
ous coal. The quantity of coal going
to market represents the maximum
production. There are neither cars or
motive power to move a greater ton
nage, and further. If there was abund
ant transportation, the mines are so
hampered by the general scarcity of
miners nnd laborers, that they would
not be nble to add to their output, and
In event of cold weather th"ie are no
surplus stocks which can be drawn
upon.
With the demnnd greater than the
supply, It Is evident that no lower
prices can be looked for until t-prlng,
since even should the working time In
January, February and March be In
creased, the excess over the norm" I
consumption during thus? months
would not be more than sutllelent tn
meet the extraordinary demand and
bring stocks to a safe amount.
