An Engineer's Troubles, Tho AVIIkes-Barre' News of yester day contained the following: " 'This is the worst kind of snow for the man In tho cab,' said Aleck Cope land at the A'alley depot yesterday as he stepped from Delaware and Hudson engine 91, 'and I'm glad I'm at my destination. Passengers in the coaches don't mind it, but the men In the en gine are caused considerable annoy ance. If not positive worry. You see these big Hakes are soft, and as soon as they strike a window they stick there like glue. Running through the storm at a fifty mile an hour clip and the front window of the cab covered with snow Isn't the plcasantest thing in the world and I hope the snow fa'.l will cease before I start on my retutn tilp to Carbondale. " An engineer must look ahead, and If anything obscures his view In front he has but one alternative open the window nnd thrust his head out. Tho snow fills his eyes, drops down the back of his neck and gathers In big globules on his mustache, but he Isn't in a position to register a kick, and Is compelled to take his medicine. A man is in danger of catching all kinds of colds, but he doesn't pull his head In 'out of the wet.' It's a bad day for our business.' he concluded as he hastened back to his engine." Mine Fire Near Hazleton. The fire which has raged for over a year In the old tulm banks at Stock ton No. 8. near Hazleton, has now gotten Into tae mines and, according to Information given out yesterday from semi-official circles, It won't be long until a mine fire of a serious nature Is started.
