Injuries Sustained Friday Resulted
Fatally Yesterday Afternoon.

Hobert Carter, of Richmond htreet,
died jestcrday afternoon nt 1 o'clock
ns the result of injuties sustained u
the Coalbiook breaker Friday after
noon. As stated in Saturday's Tri
bune, Mr Carter fell fiom some crib
bing, a distance of nearly twenty feet,
nnd struck on the railroad track. He
was unconscious for half an hour and
when ho came to ho could give no
Idea as to how it happened. He was
cut about the head and face and it
was thought his thigh was fractured.
Later, however, it was found that the
most seilous Injury was to his bead.
Yesterday morning he commenced to
sink rapidly and the fatal termination
was caused by hemorrhage of th"
brain
Mr Carter had charge of the outside
work of the collieries fiom Olyphant
to Forest City nnd was one of th
most widely known and best liked
men In the valley Ho was excep
tlonally popular with his men.
Four years ngo he was the Republi
can candidate for the mayoralty of
Cnrbondale and he missed the election
by a few votes only, due to .i little
disaffection in the paity at a time
when the town was almost evenly ell
Mded politically.
He was a member of Palestine com
manders No 14, Knights Templar,
and an Influential factor among the
Masons
Deceased was boin here fifty-two
yearns ago and by veais- of faithful
work attained the responsible position

JOHN FULTON INJURED.
I'ohn Fulton, an empOoye of the
Krantz'brewery, was Injured In a run
nway Saturday afternoon. One of
the heavy wagons ran over his right
leg and caused a compound fiacture.
It was thpught nt first the member
would have to be amputated, but the
bones were finally wired together and
the leg will In all probability be saved.
