Delaware, Lackawanna and AVestern
company nnd the men who operate tho
Mount Pleasant mine of AVcst Scran
ton by which the Lackawanna com
pany takes tho coal mined by the
Mount Pleasant company will termin
ate. The operators of the colliery have
entered Into an agreement with the
Now York, Ontario and AVestern com
panj by which a consldeiable portion
of the coal taken from that mine will
be shipped over that road after Jar 1.

production of anthracite coal duilng
September was 4,140,000 tons This
brings up tho total production from
Jan 1 to Sept. 30 to about 33,390.000
tons, which Is on a basis of more than
48,000,000 tons for the full yeai
Antlnacite shipments aggregated in
189S. 41,899,831 tons. In 1897. 41.637,864
tons, in 1S9C, 43,177,000 tons, and In ISO",
46,212,113 tons, the last being the laig
est tonnage ever sent to market Good
authorities still hold that the cm rent
year's shipments will iuii up close to
50.000 tons The Industry Is In better
shape than ever in Its previous history.
