Frank, the seventeen-year-old son of Patrick Morris, who resided with his aunt, Mrs. George Ward, was operated on yesterday afternoon at 3 o'clock for appendicitis, at the Carbondnlo hospi tal. The boy was taken 111 Tuesday and the progress of the disease wns very rapid. Peritonitis had developed before the operation and the doctors express no hope whatever of the pa tient's recovery. The borough council met In regular session last evening. Councilman Swlck stated a number of the residents of the Powder Mill had asked him to reriuest council to place an arc light near the mill. No action was taken In the matter. The wire bridge cross ing the river near the Ontario and Delaware and Hudson railroads having for some time past been out of repair and In a really dangerous condition and the latter company which has hitherto kept the bridge In repair having noti fied council that they would no longer undertake the repairs. It was decided that the borough attend to the matter. Secretary Jones read the amendment to the street car franchise submitted by the company to enable them to narrow the guage. Objection was raised to the wording of a section of the amendment as it was thought If the amendment submitted was adopted It would give the company privilege to lay their track on any street or avenue In the borough which was thought not desirable. On the motion of Council man Edmunds, seconded by Davis, a clause was Inserted that the company shall annually pay the pole tax. The wording objected to having been changed to suit the wishes of council. The nmendement was twite read. Councilman Moon complained of the nctlon of the borough attorney Ir. the enso of .1. D. Stocker versus the bor ough on the sldewnlk case. The at torney It was claimed failed to attend the court of arbitration on the day the case was Jo have been argued and had It not been for tho presence of Attorney Colborn, who asked for a eontlnunure of the case tho verdict would have been given against the borough. Tho borough attorney was present and de fended himself against the accusation by stating Attorney Colborn was pres ent at the time at his request.
