John Baker, of Fifth street, AVest
Maylleld, had u miraculous escape from
death yesterday. AVhlle engaged at
work In his chamber In the Delaware
and Hudson colliery n large slab ot
lock fell without warning, tho thin
edge of the slab striking his feet. Had
he been another inch or so-further up
the chamber he undoubtedly jivould
havo been crushed beneath the heavy
rock. He was able to walk patt if
the way to his home, but was suffering
consldetably from shock and It was
found necessary to get u conveyance
to takp him tho remaining distance fo
his home. His Injuries to the feet ai"
not serious and he will probably be
able to resume work again in n few
davs.

Is the liveliest farce ever seen on tho
Gaiety stage. Mr. AVeston Is exceed
ingly funny and his play, "Old Puddln'

cialties. The singing of Dan Toutjee
was heartily encored, and the act ot
