The Mosrs Taylor Hospital Training
school held Its first publlo commence
ment exercises nnd reception Saturday
afternoon, when seven young women
wero graduated. The pleasant parlors
were tastefully decorated and tho oc
casion was one which nttrncted much
Interest, about three hundred guests
being present.
The class consisted of Misses Emma
Car Skaiton, Anna Russell, Anna. M.
Litter, Grace M. Lloyd, Harriet II.
Teal, Lillian M. Young and Alma Wrlg
ley. The exercises opened with prayer
by Rev. James MoLeod, D. D.
Dr. George D, Stevrnrt. professor of
anatomy nt P.clUvue Hospital Medical
college, New York, delivered an address
to the graduates. It was a most happy
effort, full t blight and helpful
thoughts. He made the most aston
ishing statement that there is no abso
lute necessity that a nurse be hand
some, as if anybody ever saw a plain
fact- beneath the little white cap and
with the neat, dainty garb as n setting.
He emphasized the thought that sym
pathy, gentleness and diplomacy were
undlspensnble accomplishments to tho
diploma nnd must go with tho nurse
into the every sick room.
Miss Irene Kami sang delightfully a
number of solos. William F. Hallstead
gracefully made the presentation of the
diplomas, nnd a pleasant reception fol
lowed, when Mrs. Gladding, the super
intendent of the Training school, as
sisted by the nurses of the institution,
greeted the guests who thronged tho
rooms.
Refreshments were served, and
Uauer's orchestra furnished music.
