A WELL PLAYED GAME.
Scranton Took Another Contest from
Allentown and Gave a Fine
Exhibition of Ball Play
ing as Woll.
In the presence of two hundred spec
tators, Scranton defeated Allentown
jesterday in one of the best plu.ved
games of the se.iton. The lctory u.ii
won by a small margin, nnd the game
was Interesting throughout.
Lippert was again In his old place,
in light Held, while Rlsley covered the
fcpeond bag. Keenan was In the box
and twilled well for the home team.
Henderfcon continued his. rank decis
ions In jesterday's game. Scranton
was llrst to bat and Knnll tho llrst
man up. He succeeded in beating out
a bunt, reached second, stole thlid
nnd made n run on an eiror made by
McCormitk. The next three men were
disposed of in one, two, three.
Rlsley made a pretty steal to sec
ond In tho second Inning. Knoll scored
again In the third on Dillon's fly.
Dohcrty scored in the fourth. Knoll
scored again In tho fifth, nftcr getting
first on un euor by Lote. who lost
himself In trying to find the ball. In
the seventh Lippert and Dillon ocored.
In the eighth wo died to the tune of
one, two, three. The ninth closed with
out any special feature, making our
total runs six.
Tor Allentown, Honrj Lote and Mc
Intyie batted woll. Lote was live
times to bat, and made five hits: thrco
singles and one double. It was not un
til tho fourth Inning that Allentown
succeeded In making any runs. In this
Inning she made throe, scored by Mc
Intyie, McManus and J. Delehanty.
Delehanty secured his base on n balk
by Keenan.
Keenan made a motion to tlnow out
MrMunus on first, but did not deliver
tho ball. McCotmlck's tcore In tho
sixth was duo to McMahon's error, on
which error he reached third, and later
was taken home on J. Delehanty's lin
er over Rlsley's head.
In the eighth McMnnus sent a long
fly In left field nnd leached third, scor
ing on J. Delehanty's fly to Knoll, in
the ninth, McManus and J. Delehanty
flew to Lippert; West setnred llrst on
an error by McMnhon Things looked
dark at this critical stage of tho game
Although there were two men gone,
still It looked unceitaln for our vic
tory, with Lote to bat; but fortunatelv
for Scranton McMnhon was ready for
Loto's hot grounder, and the hitter
nocr saw (list.
Allentown closed her half of tho
ninth with a total of five tuns. Allen
town had less errors than Scranton
and more hits, but the sharp fielding
of Swift's men proved too much for
the Dutchmen If Scianton continues
to play ball In tho future as she did
yesterday there will be no teason to
complain. Tho score.
