SECOND DAY'S PRACTICE.
Plnycts Got Down to Real Hard
Work.
The Sci anion base ball pla.veis as
sembled at the Athletic pink c"Ucr
(lav afternoon foi their second puic
tice of the season. The men weie In
good condition, although a little lamo
floin .Mondays wink. They weie more
spliltcd In yestej day's pmctlLe than
they weie In Slonuuy's. Their efforts
both at the bat and In the Held won
much Impioved fiom their ptevlous
practice and they used more cine In
Judgment.
Stultz, who was playing at shoit,
was weak and showed poor Judg
ment seveial times. He was wild
and not in as good condition
as dining Monday's piactito. It is
fair to Stultz to say he was p!a
Ing out of position. Wheeler was
somewhat short In base tin owing. Gil
bert was again In left Held, and showed
up well. Kgan and ..ion appear to
i- two of our heaviest batsmen Hod
son and Hislejs woiked well in the
box, although the woik was light.
Phaokeia and Doherty, who wete ex
pected In this city Monday evening,
did not in rive. Manager Swift left
for Philadelphia Slonday evening to
be present at the schedule meeting,
which was to convene at Hotel Han
over at noon yesteiday. They have
had some tioublo in ai ranging lli'i
schedule, and It Is hoped that all dif
ficulties will be settled at this meet
ing. Today's pnutlee Is looked foiw.ud
to tor harder work, both In the Held
and at the bat. The ground yesterday
was still heavy, but a lew waim days
like jcsteiday will place It In good
condition.
There weie about one hundred
spectatois at the pi notice yester
day A much larger ciowd Is looked
for today. Manager Swift, In speak
ing of the preliminary games, vulil he
wanted to arrange with Wyoming sem
inal y for the opening game This,
howevei. Is not certain.
School League to Be Formed.
A ball league consisting of Wyoming
seminar;.. Wllke-h-Hane high si honl.
Hairy Hilluuin academy, Scranton
high school and Sihool of Lackawanna
Is being discussed. A icpresontative
fiom the School of Lackawanna, in
speaking of the league, said no definite
arrangements had jet been made, and
that it would be impossible to ascei
talu the outcome until a meeting of
the lepicsentatlves fiom the dlffeient
schools was held
When asked vvh n this meeting
would take place he said they expect
ed to meet duiitig the latter part of
