of tho burial ceremony. Those from

Thomas Grimes and Messrs. John Dills',
William Grimes. Frank Grimes,
Charles Dilts, Harry Dilts, nil of Hud
son, Pa., and Miss Ida Vincent, of
Buffalo, N. V.
James Bryden's funeral was hniJ.
yesterday morning. A requiem mrtss
was said at St. Hose church and Fath
er N'culon delivered a very fine sr
mon. The text was "Remember Thoa
the Last Day." The lloral gifts were
very handsome. Among them were "A
Broken Wheel," "A Broken Heart," a
pillow and two casket bouquets. In
terment was made in St. Rose ceniu
tery. Tho pall-bearers were: John
Lynady, William Kllleen, M. C'ostello,
Hugh Gllgallon, Patrick Kllhullon,
Thoman ColllnB. The flowcr-bearcr3
were: Patrick Duffy, Thoman Oilhool,
Frank Larkin. Patrick Kllleen and ths
hat-bearers, V. Swingle, J. Morrison.

The condition of Mr. Thomas Itlch,
the Main street merchant, who hns
been 111 for several months, 1ms grown
much worse tho past few days. He has
not been able to take any nourishment,
and as a consequence is in such a
weakened condition that his many
friends are quite alarmed.
The names of Mrs. Charles Davis and
Mrs. Henry Stone were unintentionally
omitted from tho list of guests who at
tended the Mortha Washington tea
given by Mrs. C. D. Winter on Wed
nesday afternoon.
Mr. nnd Mrs. O. W. Coon, of Main
street, attended the lecture on the Phil
ippine Islands given In the Curbondale
opera house by ltcv. Dr. F. T. Clarke,
under the nusplces of the Now Cen
tury club on Wednesday evening.

STATEMENT
OF THK
HAPPY UNION.
The marriage of Miss Christina Cur
now nnd Charles F. Masters occurred
at tho home of the bride's parents, on
upper Belmont street, at 7 o'clock.
About eighty guests were present. Mr.
Joe Curnow, brother of the bride,
played the wedding march. Miss Cur
now was attired in pearl gray, trimmed
with corded silk and ribbon. Her
bridesmaid, Miss Jones, wore a gown
similar to the bride's. Harry Curnow
acted as best man. After the wedding,
Mr. and Mrs. Masters went to their
newly-furnished home on Druinmond
avenue.

ness yesterday morning.

been visiting the former's mother and
other relatives In this city for the past
two months, returned to thflr heme

JERMYN AND MAYFIELD.
The Schubert Glee club, of Provi
dence, assisted by Mis. Lewis, Miss
Cora Grlllln and Llew Herbert, gave n
dellglitful concert In Enterprise hall on
Wednesday evening, the programme of
which has already been published. The
audience was by no means as large as
ought to have greeted such excellent
musicians. They, however, were very
appreciative and greeted the singers'
efforts by frequent bursts of applause.
Mrs. Richard Lander, of II street, was
given an agreeable surprise on Tues
day evening, when a party of ladles
visited her home, prepared to spend a
few social bolus with her In honor of
her thirty-eighth birthday. The visit
ors were pleasantly entertained, nnd
before leaving gave her a number of
tokens which were nppreciatlngly re
ceived. Those present were: Mes
rtames Toman, Adams, Russell, Cudlip,
William and Harry Langman, Joseph
Jay, jr., Samuel Brokenshire, S. J.

The Woman's Home Mission society
of the Methodist Episcopal church met
yesterday afternoon at the home of
Mrs. J. M. Graves, on Main street.

school board this evening for the pur
pose of considering the exoneration list.

Taylor Eisteddfod a Grand Success.
Mrs. Williams Laid to Rest Other
Notes.
Tho first annual eisteddfod of the
Welsh Baptist church was held in the
church audltorum on Wednesday.
There were two sessions, commencing
at 2.30 and 7.30 o'clock. Tho afternoon
session was presided over by John M.
Harris. Tho conductor was Kev.
Thomas DeGruchy, of Hyde Patk. Mr.
John C. lltchards was the only one
who responded to call for bards. The
first competition was the solo for chil
dren, "In the Secret of Ilia Presence,"
six competitors. First prize was
awarded to Miss Mary Jane Nicholas,
second prize was won by Edith
Gwynn. Competition recitation, "The
First Snowfall," six competitors; lirst
prize was won by Louisa Nichols, sec
ond prize by Maud Evans, and third
by Miss Lizzie Lewis, Bellevue. Piano
selection, "Azure Skies," six competi
tors; lirst prize was awarded to Mas
tor Ellsworth Davis, and second to
Edith Lloyd, both of Taylor. Im
promptu speech, "Snow:" one compet
itor not worthy of prize. Duet. "O
Morning Land;" one party competing,
Miss Myfanny and Master Stanley Da
vis, of Bellevue. Tenor solo. "I 131.13
Gogerddan;" two competitors, prize
was won by Hlchard Watkins. of Tay
lor. Mixed voices, "Beloved Now Are
We;" one party competing, the Cru
saders, prize was awarded to Hlchard
Watkins, party of Taylor. Tho eve
ning session commenced at 7.30 o'clock
with Superintendent W. II. Owens pre
siding. He, after a short and happy
speech, introduced the conductor, Rev.
D. D. Hopkins, of South Wales. The
reverend gentleman leferred to the
fact that some of the greatest produc
tions in Welsh literature were the di
rect fruit of eisteddfodic competitions.
This was followed by an opening song
given by Miss Edith Wynne Watkins.

was the only one who responded to
call of bards. Competition address,
"Punctuality," four competitors; prize
was awarded to Daniel Evans, of Tay
lor. Soprano solo, "The Missing

Mrs. Martha Thomas, both of Tavlor.

awarded to Richard ltobbins, Taylor.

tors; prize awarded to Evan Lewis,

by Professor David E. Jones, of Tay
lor, two choirs entering; prize was
awarded to Taylor Choral society,

Mr. Michael Olivary, of North Tay
lor, passed away on Wednesday eve
ning at 9.30 o'clock after a brief 111
nes.s. Mr. Olivary was a devoted
member of the new Parish church.
The deceased is survived by a wife
and three children as follows; Mrs.
Daniel McCarthy and Messrs. Dan
iel and Martin Oilvaiy. The loss will
bo a great blow to those who survive
him. The funeral announcement will
be made later.
Invincible Commandery, No. 2.12,
Knights of Malta, will meet this eve
ning in Ileese's hall.
Mrs. M. J. Lloyd, of Priceburg, was
the guest of her mother, Mrs. Robert
Llewelyn, of Union street, on Wednes
day. The services over the remains of
tho late Mrs. Reese Williams were
held at her late home in the Archbald
yesterday afternoon. The services nt
the house were largely attended and
were conducted by Rev. James Walker,
of the Primitive Methodist church. At
the close of the services the remains
were borne to their last resting place
in the Forest Home cemetery for In
terment. Professor M. J. Lloyd, of Priceburg,
was a caller on relatives In this place
on Wednesday.

Tho coal dealers are still short of
coal and ilnd It difficult to get in a
stock. Tho railroad people refuse to
furnish conl cars to local dealers, forc
ing them to take their conl In freight
carB. This liaa necessitated taking the
roofs off from the coal sheds and also
widening them. Dealers are also forced
to handle all the coal by hand, not
being able to dump It from freight
curs.
The Ice is moving in the river today.
It seems to be mostly slush Ice nnd Is
doing no damage here.
