DR. DALY ON TRIAL.
'In his lepoit Dt. Daly doe not
make the all Important ntntement that
it- had alioady ihomloallv analyzed
my meat, although he suggests that
such analysis should bo made. He
does state that In seveial inspections
made by him at Tampa, Jacksonville,
I'hlckamnugu and Potto Rico, he
found tho fresh beef to be nppaiontly
profeived with seciet chemicals.' He
nays that at Porto Rico tho beef ho ex
amined 'was also of the same charac
ter, being nppuuntly pioserved by In
jected chemicals.'
"For months, as it appears, Di
Daly concealed tho knowledge of the
(ummlsslon of n crime affecting men
under his rhnrge, whom, as an offleor
and a physician, he was bound to pro
, tect."
"The commission has not confined
tt.elf to merely veibal or written
proof. Immediately upon homing the
testimony of Dr. Daly on the 20th of
Tanuaiy telegrams were sent to all
Issuing commissaries In Cuba, Porto
Business Men, Mechanics and Laborers.
Tlie location of factories -will give to uw Or
jingo a solidity and will establish a business cen
ter for the same. The mechanics and laborers who
become residents it will alford an opportunity to se
cure employment through the various improve
ments, and in the factories to be erected. The op
portunity to llnd employment near home is in itself
an inducement to be considered by many. Those
thnt are in business or employed in New York City
or the towns Minounding New Orange will have
excellent transportation facilities over the dilierent
trunk lino railroads that will connect with New
Orange.

sion. These samples were to bo ot one
pound weight front tho outside and
one pound weight from tho lnsldo of
a quarter. In response to tho request
many samples have been received and
later sent to the chemist of tho agri
cultural and Interior departments for
careful chemical examination. The re
sult of analysis has been reported to
us in twenty- nlno cases, and as will
bo seen by tho reports appended, In no
specimen examined has cither botlc
or salicylic acid or other deleterious
chemicals been found.
"In view of the facts iet forth, the
commission Is of tho opinion that no
refrigerated beef furnished by con
contractots and Issued to tho troop3
during tho war with Spain was sub
jected or treated with any chemicals
by the contractors or those In their
employ. '
