NINE MEN KILLED
ON THE CENTRAL
TERRIBLE ACCIDENT AT WIN
SPEARE DRIDGE.
The Victims Vere All Poles with the
Exception of Their Foreman, John
Warner They Wero Engaged In
Shoveling Snow and Stepped from
One Track to Another in Front of
an Express.
Buffalo, N V Hoc IX Nine men
were killed and three injured near
Wlnspcare bridge near Corfu on the
Now York Central railroad today. They
were till Poles with the exception of
John 'Warner, their foreman, who is
among the killed. The men wero en
guged in shoveling snow, of which
there were numerous drifts on the line.
All were frlghtfuly mutilated. The
men stepped from one track to avoid
an approaching train right In front of
u fnst express train running In the
same direction as the llrst, and were
literally ground to pieces.
linglneer Smith, of the express, In
an Interview, said: "t could see noth
ing ahead of me, but I thought the
place looked bad and blew my whistle,
t had let up on the whistle when I
heard' my fireman give a yell. He did
not call for brakes, but 1 slapped on
the air the minute I heard him. He
had seen a man beside the track,
though lie had not seen any struck
then. A moment after 1 applied the
brakes I saw a man shoot up Into the
air on my side of the cab. He was
as high as the smoke stack when '
saw him. He came down on the
freight train, which was running along
on thai side, and was carried n mile
before he fell off. My train Flopped
In about two train lengths und the
sight that I saw when 1 got out wis
the most horrible I have ever witness
ed. The dead and mangled were lying
un both sides of the track just as
they had been thrown. I did not see
them until after we had struck them.
I did not see them come on the track,
and, until my tireman yelled, I did not
know they were there.
Superintendent llradfleld. of the Cen
tral, said that Foreman Wnrner was
sent out with it big gang this morning
lo clear the track,, of snow. Warner
distributed "00 men nlong the road be
tween this city and I.ooneyville. War
ner and eleven others were working
on the main track, near Winspeuro
bridge, when uNfeassongor train struck
them.
SENTENCE OF MARSH.
Former President of Keystone Bank
Gets Twelve Years.
Philadelphia. Dec. 13. Oldenn W.
Marsh, former president of the wrecked
Keystone National hank, was today
sentenced to an imprisonment of twelve
years and three months and to pay

The Kevstone bank failed In March,

Lawrence were placed under arrest,
charged with conspiracy In making
fnlfe entries in the books and Issuing
false reports to the comptroller o' the
currency. The cashier stood trial and
was convicted and Imprisoned, but
Maish disappeared and his ball of
$20,000 was forfeited. After wandering
over the world for seven and a half
years the fugitive president returne 1
on November 3 last, and surrendeie 1
to the authorities. He pleaded guilty
when arraigned for trial.
It was thought probable that Marsh
might when brought up for sentence
make a statement implicating o-liers

merely Informed the court that his
predecessor in the presidency f iho
bank had left a defalcation of over a
million dollars and that ho (Marsh)
had never profited a dollar through tha

lug this statement nnd was unahV to
proceed further. Ho trembled per
ceptibly when sentence was pronounced
and the expression on his face told that
he had expected much lighter punish
