fliullding committee The substance of
thu tepoit, which was piesentcd by Jlr.
Schilefer, was In substance as follows:
No 9 is an old sttuctute, heated by
stoes, the pipes of which allow smoko
and gas to escape. The building has
no pmvislon toi entilatlon, and the u li
lt contains is eiy toul, so foul that
pupils frequently go home .sick.
In No. 1 building tin sewer pipes
end at the llxtures they chain, Instead
of tunning up thtough the roof so as
to prevent all compression 01 accumu
lation of sewer nil. The traps are not
syphoned. The toilet moms are In the
basement and have but little light and
no emulation. In the toilet moms are
four Indirect ladlstors lor heating the
clnss looms, and not haling the fresh
air supply combined It Is fou' nflet
leaving the toilet moms
The watei closets ate ot the type
known as "Itange Washout," and in e
only suitable for a detached annex.
They are not entll.ited and an? made
of Iron, which is eeuiosle, and the
place is of thoroughly unsatiituiy 11I1
hotbent construction. The initials are of
the tiough pattern, without entilatlon
and have paitltlons without pnnlslon
foi being (lushed 01 cleaned.
Xo special pi oilskin exists for ie
mot ing foul air from the building, nnd
the odor of the toilet Is easily detected
lu the class looms, paitlcularl. those
known as Intermediate C and Pilmary
K.
SOME srCJOESTIOXS
We would suggest that the tolkt
looms be iciuodellcit, that the tloois,
glazed brick walls and sheet metal be
used In coustiuition, that new win
dows be nut In. the piesent one en-
laiged, that the iudlieet i.adiatots be
removed to one of the adjoining base
ment rooms, that the sewer pipe be
continued for ventilation through tin
roof, that blick all pipes be provided
for trup ventllat'on undei the base
nient sink and the wash basin- on the
first and second Hoots, that the tang,
closets be replaced with eatthern
syphon 1er closets, pioptily (quipped
with sanltniy appliances, that tho
initials be of the automatic flushing
type, propet ly trapped, that fnsh ab
be introduced and foul air lemoved by
proper ventilation of the toilet looms
fo that the air though changed bo
kept at an even temperatmo
Wo earnestly renin st our adoption
of the above recommendations, know.
Ing that at their completion you will
have toilet rooms whose in iterlal will
be perfectly non-absorbent In construc
tion, and the plumbing fixtures placed
therein, absolutely non-corrosive, all of
which vvp ery respectively FUbmlt to

at the beneficent working of tho forces
of the Intimate connection of every
soul with this hidden cause, so that
eveiy life touches It. comes forth from
