Supreme Coutt Sustains the Lower
Court In Refusing n New Tiinl.
Case Will Be Taken to United
States Court.
Among the decisions handed down
b the Supreme court, sitting in
Pittsburg, yesterday, was one affirm
ing the decision of the eollit of quar
ter sessions of this count In refusing
a new trial in the case of Geoigo K.
Van Horn, comlctcd of the muider of
Mis. Josephine Wecot 'I here weie

the part of the defense.
Two ol them were on constitutional
questions. One was that the coutt

It Is alleged, Is contrary to tho United

On tho strength of these allegations
Messis. Wedeman and Thayer, attor
neys for Van Horn, will take the case
to the supremo court of the United
States. They will go befote the statu
supieme couit with a motion for the
allow ance of an appeal and If ills gi anted
will ptocoed to hao the case submit
ted to the Federal supieme court.
The gi anting of tlte appeal will, of
coutse, stay all pioceedlngs. If It is
not granted the governor will be called
upon to fix a date for the execution.

SECURING A BUILDING.
Mrs. J. L. Crawford gave an inter
esting and caiefully prepared lesult
of the building committee, describing
the early stiugglcs for a home and the
subsequent triumph. The two lots
were purchased foi $1,500 at a time
when single lots were selling for a
$1,000 each. Now pioperty in this vi
cinity has Increased a large per cent.
The building committee consisted of
Mis. Ciawfoid, Mrs. A. D, Stelle, Mrs.
W. H. Taylor. Mis. W. T. Hac-kett,
Mrs. W. S. Dlehl and Mr. J L Ciaw
ford. Mr Crawford sketched the plans
which were accepted. Mr. K. L. Wal
tet was selected as aichitect and the
contract was let to Heniy Kauffhold
for $5,C00. A complete description of
the building followed A fence has
since been nddeel, which, with the grad
ing cost $500. The total cost of the
property Is $8,13S.23. Of this $1,C34.29
remains unpaid. Carbondale, Pitts
ton and Peckvillo hate tontilbuted
to the building fund,
