Prosecution Bedded Upon by the
Minister of Wnr The Commission
to Consider a New Trial of Drey

Paris, Sept. SI. The papers hero say
that the minister of wnr.Qenernl Ohnn
olnc, has examined the documents In
the. Dreyfus cane, nnd has ordered the
prosecution of former Colonel l'lequurt
on the chat-Be f forgery and using
forced documents.
'I'hy irfal nf'ColonM Picquart and M.
l.oblols, a lawyer, on the charge of re
vealing documents concerning the na
tional defense, commenced today be
fore the Correctional tribunal: but the
public prosecutor asked for an ad
lournment on the ground that the pros
ecution of Colonel IMequart on the
charge of forgery and using forged
documents had been ordered by the
minister of war. 11. Laborl, who was
counsel for M. Zola during the lntter's
famous trial. Indignantly opposed the
adjournment which, ho raid, was tin
nttMiipt to hand over Colonel Plcquart
Into th clutches of the military au
thorities. Colonel Pietiuart then rose nnd made
a. statement which caused n sensation.
He said: "This Is, perhaps, the last
Urns I shall speak In public. 1 shall
sleep, perhaps, in the military prison
of Chercho Midi. Therefore. I wish to
declare that If I find there tho strang
ling cord of Lemcrelor Pieard or tho
razor of Colonel Henry, It will be mur
der, for I have no Idea of committing
KUiclde!"
The audience was Intensely moved
and shouted "Vive Plcquart!" Tho
Judges, however, after a short deliber
ation, decided to Indefinitely adjourn
tha case and Colonel Picquart was led
away between policemen.
Lcmercler Pieard, the man referred
to by Colorel Picquart, was a detec
tive, understood to have been employed
in tho Dreyfus affair, who was found
nanged In his lodgings about a year
DBo under circumstances which did not
indicate that tt was certain he had
committed suicide.
The commission appointed by the
minister of justice, M. Sarrlen. to ex
amine the documents In tho Dreyfus
case and pronounce upon the advisa
bility of the government formally
granting the prisoner of Devil's Island
a new trial, met this afternoon at the
ministry of Justice. The greatest pre
cautions were taken to Insure secrecy.
Tt is understood the commission will
come to o. decision by Monday next,
when M. Sarrlen will communicate its
findings to a cabinet council, which
will bo presided over by President
Faurc.

I REAL ESTATE IS THE BASIS OF ALL SECURITY I
i lteasons Why It Is Advisable to Invest Your Money In Lots
5 at New Orange, New Jersey. 5
First,
5 Because good real estate
- money than any other investment.
s Second,
Because the gentlemen comprising the officers of the Associa- s
s tion are reliable business men, and their leputation is a guarantee E
s of any promise they may make. 5
1 Third,
5 Because the land is on an average of 1 50 feet above high tide. 5
5 affording perfect drainage, pure spring water is off from the 55
5 dampness of the sea shore. It is a most beautiul place. 5
Fourth, 5
Because New Orange property lies onlv 2lA miles from New -
s YorK, and is Between the Lehigh vallev, i).,i.. & W.. Jersey (Jen- 5
5 tral, Philadelphia and Reading and R.iitimoie and Ohio Railroads, s
s A belt line will connect New Orange with the above lines, mak- 5
s ing it the best shipping point in
5 Fifth,
s Because 3,000 lots comprise
S located in the most desirable portion of the property. These lots 3
5 arc sold at a uniform price ot $32:5,00, $10.00 down and the bal- 5
S ance in monthly payments of $10.00. These lots lie next to and 5
g contiguous to 2,000 reserved lots.for immediate building purposes, S
g which are selling from $500 to $1500, according to location.
E Sixth, s
g Because the Ricca Manufacturing Co., has moved its plant to 5
g its new building and is in full operation. A great many new g
g houses are being built for the employes of the factory; one con- g
5 tractor, Mr. James Arthur,, of Philadelphia, has a contract to build g
x 81 houses, on which he is now at work. Mr. C. K. Silvius, of g
Scranton, Pa., has a contract to build 12 houses. The Green Ridge g
5 Lumber Co., of this city, is furnishing the building material. Con- g
5 tract let for the erecting of a factory for the Reliable Silk Manufac- S
g turing Co., to be finished in 60
iinisnca for a laciory 300 leet square, to ue occupied uy uxiey a
Enos, of New York, manufacturers of chandeliers. The pay roll g
of this firm is $300,000 per year. Wm. Schubmehl, of Olyphant, 5
Pa., says: "These lots, which aie now selling for $321. will, in g
my opinion, bring $1,000 in two years. Price of lots will bead- x
vanced to $350 in the near future. a

A recent railway iiceldent In South

Wo also remember reading an account
of an identical error on the part of a
signalman on one of the Australian tuil
ways. Another correspondent conies along
now with a description of a phantom
feeu by him in one of the out-ot-the-way
parts of Winnipeg. "At least fifteen min
utes before the, train arrived," he writes,
I saw It suddenly leap Into sight in a
way th.it made mo pick up my bag and
hop off tho track In double-quick time.
Then 1 waved my handkerchief for it to
ttop, nnd suddenly 1 noticed that It had
stopped apparently about fifty yards off.
I began to charge up the truck so as to
get on board, when It mysteriously and
suddenly dlsappiared. A few minutes
later 1 saw It ngaln, only this time off
'he track and running along the prairie
II gnve mo quite an ecrlo feeling, nnd 1
began to think the cold had got Into my
henu, and 1 cast superstitious glances
round me to s-o It there were any more
trains frolicking about In the snow, and
mddenly I bethot ght me of what I had
heard about the mirage. When 1 saw til '
tlnetly thai the train had stopped, It
must have been at Lasam. nearest sta
tion, about nine or ten miles up the lin."
There Is. of course, a great distinction
to bo drawn between tho occuirence of a
so-called phantom and simple forgetful
ness. which has been tho cause of too
many railway accidents; but the possi
bility of both, taken with the const uuent
llsks to life and limb, must be regarded
as an argunu-m In fuvor of keeping two
men In a signal box
