Giovanni Ulnoomozso's Pccnllnr lix
porlenoe with n lloplllo,
Giovanni Glacomosio Is tho name ot
n. native of Hunny Italy, who for two
or more years pnat hns dwelt In Forest
City nml labored In the famous white
stono (lunrrles, just north o this place,
for Frank Cnrluccl, tho Sorojiton con
tractor. Giovanni has never had any
thing much' out of tho onllnury happen
to him In tho whole course of Mb life
until recently, but a lata pxparlenca to
which he waa a party, In something1
remurkahlo anil ono which ho wilt no
doubt always remember. For nbout a
year and a hulf he linn boon bothered
with a feellnp; of fullness In tho sto
mach, nnd at the Fame thno an un
accountnble desire for food, often hut
a short time after a h?nrty mnnl. The
trouble became, worse and worse and
Giovanni's appetite became greater nml
greater. At lost tho rnnn declared lie
could feel something In hla stomach
that ought not to he then', anil even
told his friend? thnt it wai nomc kind
of a reptile, and that h'o could locate,
"by tho feeling-, Its headend body. His
distress nt length reached a point
where ho could Btand It no longer, and
he decided to consult a physician, lie
came to Dr. C. H. Knapp anil stated
his symptoms. He vfan advised to ab
stain from food and drink ns far na
possible for twenty-four hours, which
he did, and then the medical man Rave
him a double distilled dosa that waa
specially calculated for what ailed him.
The result wan entirely satisfactory
and tho sufferer'3 otoinach was reliev
ed of a garter snake that measured
over sixteen Inches In length. How the
reptile ever found lodgment there Glac
omozzo does not know, but he Rays thnt
nbout two years bnck he was In the
habit of stooping' down and drinking
out of a spring- In tho wood1 near
where he worked and that he may have
Bwallowcd It In that way. At that
time the snake was probably so smnll
that ho would not bo apt to notice It.
But It gradually grew nt Giovanni's
expense, until It was so noticeable that
Us removal was Imperative. Glaco
mozzo is now happier than ho has been
for many a day before, and It Is safe
to siy that, while his appetite iray
not be Improved, It will be considerably
nearer the normal.

THE MARKETS.
Wnll Street Revlotr.
New York, March 16. The early
strength In today's stook market was
a repetition of yesterday's movement,
but prices resisted tho last pressure fur
a decline and as a consequence show
substantial net gains all through tho
list. Tho bulls had the advantage also
of higher prices on the London ex
change and although prices Immedi
ately rose buoyantly above th London
parity, there was conspicuous buying
for the London account as late as busi
ness was done In the British capital.
The London buying was certainly duo
to a feeling at that center that there
la a more promising prospect as to
affairs between the United States and
Spain. This feeling was shown nlso In
a quiet, buoyant tone for Spanish fours,
which rose ltt in London and In
Paris. There was undoubtedly preva
lent In New York also a feelins that
the outlook was more peaceful and
such of the day's developments ns had
a more threatening aspect were Ig
nored. Either tho Spanish govern
ment's seml-oiliclal announcement of
Its opinion on the maintenance by thu
United States of the fleet in Florida
waters or the news that ofllclal atten
tion had been called to this opinion by
the Spanish government would havo
been sufficient to demoralize the mar
ket a week ago. But the underlying
conviction in Wall street Is that the
authorities at Washington have come
to indulge a hope of a peaceful settle
ment. The continued preparations for
defense and such Incidents as those of
today do not wholly dissipate this con
viction. Nevertheless, operations are
not on a large scale, pending a definite
decision of the Cuban problem. Tho
supply of stocks was not large today
and prices moved easily upwurds with
out any heavy transactions. Tho total
sales of stocks today were 372,900
shores.
